I don't think he sucks, so I am OK with this. I don't like that he was agreeing with Suggs that Brady is soft, but I'm sure he just appeases every player and their BS just to get on with his life.

I didn't think it was a great game for Vinkovich against the Pats but it could be worse. I just want him to be consistent because these are two secondaries that play very physical

That wasn't his real crew. It was an all star crew made up of a bunch of officials from other ref teams. It will most likely be different for the Super Bowl.

Vinovich & Crew could have been worse during the Ravens game and I didn't have a problem with them not calling holding on either team but when someone is in a choke hold you HAVE to call that. They let them play but probably a little too much. I dont want to deal with this in the Superbowl from a team who actively pushes the envelope on penalties knowing "they can't call everything".

FWIW: In the Ravens game the Umpire was from Hochuli's crew, Side Judge from Clete Blakeman's and the Back Judge from Jerome Boger's.

Err, Gronkowski was mauled, and Patriots couldn't breathe on Ravens receivers. Some roughing after the play by the Ravens as well. Didn't care for the PI and no PI calls.

We could do a lot worse. Every game there are calls that should or should not have been made. You've just got to hope that things work out evenly or in your favor.

Well this is going to be interesting.

If he does what he did last game he will let the lines play and hold all day long but be a bit ticky tacky on PI and defensive holding.

I don't know if refing that game the exact way he did last time would help or hurt the Pats honestly.

This scares me more than Seattle's defense. Revis has had more PI's called on him in the one playoff game with Vinovich than he had all season.

The guy who called PI on Revis isn't there, the Umpire that missed all the offensive holding is gone and the back judge who missed Gronk being mauled on 3rd down is also gone.

I wasn't thrilled with the officiating in the Ravens game, he somehow didn't throw a flag when Brady got shoved and poked in the eye after the play, plus the PI calls were all over the place (though my understanding is Vinovich is not responsible for that). I'm very happy it's not a Jerome Booger again though, that's guy is definitely in someones pocket. After the Ravens game, Vinovich is probably the one best suited to effectively adjudicating the crazy formations that the Pats are running, so the NFL would be nuts not to have him out there. He'll have marching orders from the league regarding how much consideration to give the Hawks defenders, but so would anyone else, so that won't make much of a difference. The fact that he won't be as likely to be confused and reactionary is the biggest thing.

The one thing that concerns me about Vinovich is his use of instant replay. I usually can tell what an official is seeing, but with him, I often wonder if he is watching a different game under the hood. It's like he has middle-age man eyes, like me, and needs glasses for the up-close viewing, even while his on field vision is fine. Factual speculation aside (and homerific value judgments front and center, where they belong in these situations), I think he goes under there and simply makes the easiest call, rather than the right one, and that bugs me most of all.

In The Greatest PC of All Time yesterday, Bill laid psi-gate in the laps of the refs. I hope that doesn't have reverberations in this game.

Sheesh, another 'all-star' crew. I think the main problem with this is that the refs lack familiarity working with each other. The communication isn't as fast, and there's not the comfort level and trust built from working with each other over a long period of time.

I mean I get it that refs need recognition too, and this is one way to give it to them, but honestly as far as quality, I think they should just pick the crews that were voted 'best' by whatever committee decides theses things and assign them to different games. Breaking up the crews does not increase the quality of officiating imo, in fact it would tend to create inconsistency which you do NOT want in the biggest games of the year!
