Was Zoltan Mesko worth the draft pick?

When we drafted this kid I assumed he was a sure-fire A+ punter, you'd have to be to even warrant a draft pick being used on your position.

I've not been impressed so far. Hasn't been horrible, but (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going off what I've seen, haven't broke down the stats) hasn't been fantastic either.

He has had 4 punts in his career!!!

He is 6th in the league for average yardage on the punt! And has only been returned for 11 yards!

I think he is a good punter! Get good distance and hang time, allowing the coverage to get down field!

On what basis has Mesko not impressed you? I'm skeptical of any conclusions that you'd draw off of a sample size of four, good or bad, but even beyond that. I haven't seen any reason not to be impressed.

His flaws? He's missed three kicks. Tough stretch, but he'll pull through it.

And from what I've seen in games, the Zoltan has looked pretty dang good. 45 yard NET average. Albeit, it's a small sample size, but impressive nonetheless.

In 2001 a guy named Tom Brady only completed 50% of his passes in his first 2 1/2 games as starting QB and had passer ratings in the 60s on average

Take a look at recent Patriots draft history from the 5th round (on).

Yes, we can all point to a very good player drafted that late. But the retention rate is terrible.

The Pats have decided to take the guy they think is the best kicker, snapper, and punter available in three recent drafts. They are very likely to continue to have these guys on the roster for a long time.

I have no problem with any of those picks.
