I get that he seems to be a pain in the ass, but he's been a good young player for the Lions, too. They're putting him on IR after his recent suspension, and it won't be a surprise if he gets the axe in the offseason. So, given the Patriots obvious need for WR youth.........

What's with this kid, mentally, and is it something that's always been there? I wanted the Patriots to take him in the draft, and I'm basically trying to figure out if his PIA level is something that could be fixed in NE, or if it's something that's permanent with him.

Not sure what is with the kid. What I do know is that during an interview, Dominic Raiola went off on Young calling him an *****HOLE on several occasions.

Based on the scouting reports and the fact that he was suspended from his college team for 9 games for breaking team rules, I'd say it was always there. One of the knocks on him by NFLDraftscout.com was that he was egotistical and had a penchant for resisting coaching.

At least one writer in Detroit doesn't seem to particularly care for Young:

Detroit Lions put Titus Young on injured reserve, ending his season | Detroit Lions | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

The Lions found a creative way to rid themselves of a major locker-room distraction, placing wide receiver Titus Young on season-ending injured reserve today with a knee injury.

Young has missed practice time throughout the season with a sore knee — he was last listed on a practice participation report for injury reasons Nov. 16 — and all IR transactions must be approved by the NFL, but his benching for the year has more to do with recent behavioral issues than injuries.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz sent Young home from the team twice in the past three weeks and three times since May.

On Nov. 19, a day after Young purposely lined up in the wrong spot on the field in a loss to the Green Bay Packers and yelled at receivers coach Shawn Jefferson on the sideline, Schwartz told Young he wasn’t welcome at the facility anymore.

I don't personally know about Young too much other than what we saw in college, but I think that Bill Belichick really values traits such as attitude and ability to work together as a team.

I couldn't imagine him bringing in someone who purposely sabotaged their own team by lining up in the wrong place on different occasions because he was pissed that he wasn't getting enough looks.

I would equate Young to being like D.Bryant when we passed over him in the draft, although there are certainly differences between the two of course. Both have great talent and could probably do fine in certain circumstances, but they don't seem to have the kinds of traits that Belichick personally looks for in his players.

Just my opinion.

I think purposely lining up in the wrong place to sabotage the offense is enough that I don't think he's worth giving a second chance to. I don't see how any coach could ever trust him against after that.

In college, he was suspended for most of the 2008 season, reportedly coming from an incident relating to alcohol (he was underage). I've also read some concerns that he was a little lazy with his pre-combine training, and would just skip some sessions.

If the Lions' locker room, of all teams, found him lacking in character, then I doubt the Patriots will want him. If he was just an *******, then maybe, but if he's lazy too, which by all accounts he is, then no way.

There're reports of him being lazy in practices, arguing with WR coach and OC on many occasions. Seem like a talented kid with some decent hands, but no brain. He won't last if he keep doing like this.

The fact that he purposefully lined up wrong during the game due his lack of targets is a huge red flag to me and makes me say avoid at all costs.

I always try to separate off-field/personal "character issues" from football "character issues." Young has BOTH.

The Pats have taken chances on players with off-field problems, but almost* never touched players who show disrespect for football, their teammates and winning games.

*and the Albert Haynesworth experiment hardly bears repeating

Titus Young is a cancer. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pool, and I'm betting the Pats wouldn't either. Despite 4.3 speed and occasionally showing DeSean Jackson/Percy Harvin kind of skills, Young is just a dead weight who will drag a team down. He is selfish, resistant to authority, and the antithesis of a team player. He also has no self-discipline, can't run routes, and can't block. Anything else I should add?

Young's personality problems go way, way back ... at least to high school. He was suspended from school in the 9th grade.

At Boise St. Young reportedly had problems with recurrent fumbles, missing team meetings, and inability to learn the playbook. He flaunted coaches' authority, and was suspended during the 2008 season, intially for at least 3 games, later extended to the remainder of the season (10 games), and there was talk of him transferring. Instead, he came back for the 2009 and 2010 seasons and was quite successful, and seemed to put his troubles behind him, though he still had a reputation for selfishness, and several teams reportedly took him off their draft boards because of character concerns.

Detroit didn't, and took him in the 2nd round of the 2011 draft. Young missed time in training camp with a hamstring injury.

Last year Young drew a critical penalty for throwing a punch at a New Orleans defender in the red zone, stalling a key drive. That led to a confrontation with coaches on the sideline, and to a shouting match with center Dominic Raiola. He had a number of other boneheaded penalties that hurt drives as well.

This spring Young was suspended for throwing a sucker punch at safety Louis Delmas. Since then he's been in an authority struggle with the Lions' coaching staff, and was a healthy scratch at several times this season. Annoyed about a perceived lack of playing time and receptions, Young reportedly deliberately lined up in TE Tony Scheffler's position on purpose several times during the Green Bay game, leading to a confrontation with the coaching staff and his current suspension, and eventual IR status.

This is not a salvageable kid. This is a kid with a longstanding history of suspensions, selfishness, inability to tolerate authority, and an insatiable need for the limelight. He also has a very limited skillset. He would be the worst possible fit for the Patriots, IMHO.

I can put it more strongly if you like.
