Vrabel on Shula
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

OLB Mike Vrabel was a guest on "The Mike Felger Show" on ESPN 890 today and was asked about Don Shula's remarks in the New York Daily News.

Vrabel's response: "I think that we try to go out there and play hard every week. And I don't think that guys are going to draw on an old retired coach and old washed up players to pump us up. We play hard. We try to go out there and play hard. That's our job every week is to go out there and play hard. To play for our team, my teammates, my coaches, the respect factor, that's what I try to go out and play for, and I think everybody else on our team does the same thing."

Too bad he just didn't say:"I am sorry he is scared!!"

I don't think that guys are going to draw on an old retired coach and old washed up players to pump us up.

LOLOLOLOL

Don "head of the competition committee" Shula...for 20 years...just like Poliastopheles...two miscreant megalomaniacs

Call me slow, but I just recalled that Shula didn't just coach the Dolphins.

He also coached the Colts. (Including to being the victims of the Joe Namath upset.)

And he played for the Colts too.

No wonder he hates the Pats.

Well, he may hate the Pats now, but back then I'm quite sure he didn't.

Rather, he was simply most dismissive of them, acknowledging them begrudgingly on game days because the league had the turpitude to actually schedule them against his team.

However, once he got past that little mental hurdle, he never seemed to have a problem sticking it to this team.

Never.

People sometimes complain Belichick is an arrogant SOB, but he has nothing on this guy, trust me.

Vrabel served up Shula a nice big glass of STFU

Damn, Vrabel really put the smack down on Shula. Old and washed up? Harsh; I like it.

Vrabel has morphed into a very unique personality on the Pats, he does not say a lot, but I like what he says...

You speak the truth, brotha. I remember those days very well, and to have this team stick it to them gives me a lot of satisfaction.

I love it.

Hey Don, remember the Dolphins' last games of the 85 and 86 seasons? Say, who was that that bumped the Fish out of the playoffs those years (actually kept them OUT of the playoffs in 86). Oh yeah, right, it was THE PATS!!!!!

BOO YAH.

This just in! There was an NFL before 2001! Really!

OK, OK, I just couldn't help myself Fence. I am a bad person.
But seriously, Shula developed a serious hate for the Pats after the snowplowgate where a work release felon came out in a tractor and plowed off the field at Schaffer Stadium for John Smith's winning FG. Something snapped in him. Probably regarded the Pats as a cheater DNA franchise ever since.

P.S. I watched Joe Namath totally defeat the smug Shula Colts on my birthday in SB III. Loved every minute of it.
