The Patriots run defense has been somewhat inconsistent this season. However, defensive lineman Richard Seymour, the only player on the team to make the Pro Bowl each of the past five seasons, is still returning to form after missing the entire preseason and first seven regular-season games with a knee injury.

Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel scoffed at one local media type who suggested that anyone in the locker room may have insinuated that the team feared their next opponent.

"Who said that?" he asked. "No one in here. We play whoever's up."
i think this whole talk about how physical the jags are is getting to the players. We had seymour saying the pats are physical themselves then mankins saying somewhat the same.
People seem to have this perception that our players are physical enough just because the jags make much noise .

I don't think it's getting to them. They have way too much on their plates from BB to have time to worry about how the media perceives the other team.

Re: Vrabel a little ticked off ?

If anything else jax just created a sh*tstorm for themselves because now those guys are gonna make sure they stop the run jax will wish they hadn't said anything.

Re: Vrabel a little ticked off ?

Suspect this game to be somewhat "chippy", despite all the accolades, there has been too much said about the Jags and how great they are...

Re: Vrabel a little ticked off ?

Did anyone notice that the Pats ranked 10th against the run this year? I know Jacksonville's physical and they have a 2 back system and all but...10th against the run is pretty good.

I have absolutely no doubt that BB and the coaching staff are reminding the team "jax is too physical" on a daily basis.

It is a tried and true motivation tactic for football coaches and one BB has been using going back to his days in New York. He and Parcells would constantly praise guys drafted before Lawrence Taylor or players such as Pat Swilling who the press compared favorably to him in film session leading up to match-ups with those teams. It fboth fired him up and focused him. Reminding guys like Vrabel and Seymour how Jacksonville is so physical will have the same effect.

Let's face it -- we have a bunch of pu**ies on this club. Just a soft team with a pretty boy QB and an effete passing attack. No hope they can man up against the Jags. They're big, tough and physical. We're doomed. DOOMED I tell ya...

This remind me of that Dr Dre song Forget about Dre where the whole time in the song he is talking about making it big and now everone thinks he is soft. This is the Pats, this was "the most physical team in the NFL" just last year and now cause they put up huge points and blow by everyone on the field they arent tough anymore. Who they hell do they think they are talking about anyway?!!

I believe you are right.
Our guys have a lot of pride. I am quite sure they have heard this media
blitz on how physical the JAGs are and although not said these media
people are insinuating that the PATs are not so physical. I think the response
by some of our players indicate this is EXACTLY how they are perceiving
all this talk about the JAGs being so physical.

My bet is they are ticked off at these insinuations and
I look for a big response by the PATs on the field. They will match their
intensity and will be out to show every one ... how really physical they are.

Go PATS ... :rocker:

Oh ... thanks to the news media, our 13th man, you've done it again
... pissed our guys off!

Well that is the way it goes, not meant to be this year.
I will still watch because I am eager to see Brady & his boys in their matching leg warmers.I think they will look soooooo cute!!!

Without a doubt.

I remember defending AFC titlist Pittsburgh steamrolling Indianapolis in the 1996 wildcard round. Bettis and company rang up something like 200 yards on the ground and put up over 40 points. Big bad physical Pittsburgh came into Foxboro the following week and got punched in the mouth, losing 28-3. You know Parcells had challenged their manhood all week.

I remember high-scoring and record-setting Indy coming into Foxboro for the divisional round, facing a Pats team without Manning nemesis Ty Law. Three hours later it's a 20-3 final and Bruschi is spouting off about how the Colts can have rules enforced for their benefit, but it still doesn't matter. You just know BB was gushing how unstoppable that Colts offense was.

I love the comments coming from Seymour and Vrabel, for it shows they're ready to lay a licking on Jacksonville.

Regards,
Chris

I think people are more keying on their performance of late...

I thought I heard on NESN this AM that the Pats averaged 120 rushing yards per game the last 3 games or something...

Who cares. This is playoffs. I'll take our'n over their'n on experience alone!
