How is Vegas balancing the line on the Pats super bowl bet? There is only 1 team. Where is this 50/50 split youre jabbering about?

What 1 team? What are you talking about? Anyone with moderate background experience could tell you exactly what me and that article are saying. I assume you disagree but I can't tell through what I can only guess is a drunken rant. The bottom line is "THEY DON'T CARE". If that's not clear enough, sober up and read it.

The 50/50 split is as someone said more of a balance of the 32 teams. They want the money distributed over those 32 teams in the Super Bowl case. I thought that was obvious but I guess not. The formula isn't 1/32 but it isn't 50/50 in this case either but there is a formula where they want to take the money bet on a team (Patriots) and make sure that the money not betting on the Patriots is about the same. It's not rocket science.

If the Pats are getting 4 to 1 odds, Vegas wants to make sure that they cover if the pats win. That means that if you bet a dollar, the Pats win, and you get 4 dollars, they want to make sure that 4 dollars was also not bet for the Pats...that way they still make money on the vig...it's not that complicated. They're just balancing the money, nothing more. If the Pats are 4 to 1 odds, that tells you there's a lot of money that Vegas is guessing will be bet on the Patriots or odds would be a lot better. If they put the Dolphins at 1 - 2000 (don't really know what the odds are for them), then they know a lot of people aren't going to bet on the fins but they want to encourage people to put their money down on them so they have great odds. Who would bet the fins otherwise? They only want to balance the money coming in with the money going out plus the vig.

In the case of a normal game, it's a 50/50 split for and against the line.

Vegas does not guess at who is going to win and doesn't care. They only care about covering the bets and getting the vig.


If it makes people feel better to think that Vegas really analyzes this crap, go ahead. Put a tooth under the pillow and maybe the tooth fairy will come.
