When are final possible decision dates?

Here you go.

I'll repost here what I put in the other thread about what I learned:

Throwing this out there for anyone (like me) who was a little confused about the IR return process.

1) Once player has been put on IR, they can't even start practicing for at least 6 weeks.
2) Once 6 weeks has gone by, the team can choose to have a player start practicing.
3) To be able to start practicing, the team must use a "designated to return" slot on the player.
4) The team can wait as long as it wants to have the player start practicing. There's no "use or lose" deadline with respect to the start of practice.
5) However, once the player starts practicing, the team has 21 calendar days to either activate the player to the 53-man roster or decide to leave the player on IR. And as we know, if the team decides to leave the player on IR, the team does not get the "designated to return" slot back.
6) There's no minimum practicing time. A player could be reactivated immediately
6) However, a player must be on IR for at least 8 weeks. So if they were to start practicing once the 6 week clock expires, they can't be reactivated for 2 more weeks. But if they start practicing 8 or more weeks after being placed on IR they can be reactivated immediately

thx

So, either could start practicing at any time and be activated at any time.

Yes. That's the way I interpret that. And I think they are both way past 8 weeks so they could be reactivated and play immediately.

While this seems to be true, I think we’d get at least a 2 week window of practice to help them knock the rust off and become acclimated to this year’s team. Not that you’re suggesting otherwise, but I think it would be virtually impossible for either player to suddenly be activated and play live reps on a Sunday. Obviously, I could be wrong.

You're not. It is reckless strategy to have a player who has been unable to stress all parts of their body even in backyard practice and who hasn't even taken a hit in a practice session for 3.5 months to be playing after a couple of practices. VV took some hits up to preseason game 3. So that'll be 3.5 months. MM hasn't seen anything since February - almost a whole year. They'd be a detriment to the team and their injury chances would be absurdly high.

My guess is one of these guys is getting the designation and coming to practice in the next 2 weeks or they're done for the year. VV or MM has got to practice a couple of weeks and get into one of these meaningless games in the 4th quarter. Otherwise how does BB-JM-MP have any idea on what they can do with consistency and how much they can rely on them?

Mitchell appeared in a preseason game, against the Texans I think, so he is also out for some 3,5 months.

Yup. Collision with his own teammate, O'Shaughnessy, that put MM on IR in the first place.

Nothing against Mitchell. Good player and a nice kid. We could really use Valentine IMO. Our run D is shaky at best. Maybe, allows us to use A.Butler at strong-side de on early downs.

I tend to agree that if given a choice, I'd want another DL in there....It seems that we have plenty of WR help as soon as Hogan returns....even without Hogan our RB's make excellent targets to move the chains as pass catchers OR runners.....
