What if we beat the Jets in our next matchup and end up with the same record at the end of the season? We will have the same record and both be 1-1 on head to head match ups. It will depend on total division wins but what if that is also a tie?

if we beat the jets, and then lose either Chi or GB but not both, we could end up tied to the NYJ.

we would then VERY LIKELY win the tiedbreaker on strength of victory.

so relax!

The short answer is: It depends. If the Patriots beat the Jets but they end up in a tie, say at 13-3, then it would depend on who that 3rd team was that beat the Patriots. If that loss was against BUF or MIA, then the Jets would own the tie-breakers. But if this hypothetical loss was against DET, GB or CHI, then the tie-breakers would come down to strength of victory, and the Patriots have a solid lead in that area. If you take away all the common victories, we've beaten BAL, SD and IND (17-12), they've beaten CLE, DEN and HOU (10-19).

Here is the very simple breakdown: As things stand right now, we have to beat the Jets, Miami and Buffalo. If we do that, we can afford a loss against Detroit, GB or Chicago and we still win the division and that would also guarantee the Pats are the #1 seed in the AFC.

If the Jets should lose a 4th game, then it would depend on who that loss was against before I could tell you who the Patriots would be able to lose a 4th game against and still win the division. Also, a 4-loss Patriots team which won the division would not currently be guaranteed the #1 seed in the conference.
