IND game provided two plays that bring two BIG NEW moments in NE offense & can scare the league thinking stopping it. They were made by two new players added - Edelman and Gordon. Incidentally they came back to back and in the most “critical“ moment of the game.
1. Edelman of course brings consistent chain moving (even when he goes for the ball a few yds short of the yellow line one can be confident he will make it to 1st down one way or another). Like @patfanken wrote in his weekly column he also frees more space for others to make plays. But this play here is the most scary addition to Pats O - with every other Pats player (w possible occasional exception of Patterson) and most other players in the league - this is a TFL and the end of the drive. Jules relentlessly and somewhat miraculously - as only he knows how - breaks the tackle and keeps the drive alive (in the only “critical“ moment of the game).
2. The fact that Brady even throws the ball like this (for Gordon) and in that situation is both new and scary. He never throws this ball like that to anybody else (not even Gronk or Jules unless absolutely needed). Usually he throws this ball away. But here he feels like all football fans feel - Gordon is like a magnet for the ball - plus he's physically so hard to stop (even with evident hold like in this play).
This two plays mean simply and scary that every drive in every situation is always very much alive for the Pats..
(TB pass % goes up from around 66% in two previous wins (26/39 vs HOU & 23/35 vs MIA) to over 77% 34/44 vs IND!)
With new wrinkles and real danger that Patterson provides and with Sony getting more in sync with OL and used to NFL game - added to no easy matchups of Gronk, White & co - this unit should really be something if they can stay healthy..
