This defense didn't create them last year and it is even worse this year. Can't be an effective Super Bowl caliber defense without causing turnovers unless you can flat out overwhelm the other team with your talent on every drive like Chicago, Baltimore etc. We aren't able to do this with our personnel and need to create turnovers!! The d-backs don't seem like they are ever looking back and trying to make a play on an interception.

With our offensive struggles, the defense must try to step up to carry this team and they can't do it without causing turnovers. When was the last time we scored a defensive touchdown?

exactly...we can blaming the offense all we want..the D is ineffective right now..

I thought the defense played well last night. I was glad to see that they kept their intensity for the entire game and did not get bogged down from the offensive struggles.

Even with that being said, I completely agree 100% on the turnover issue. They are basically -4 through 3 games (if you don't count the last second haily mary int by Bruschi).

A caller made the point to Jerry Callahan on WEEI this morning and Callahan shot him down saying that turnovers are fluky. They are not flukey.

-getting pressuring on the quarterback, forcing him into ill advised throws that get picked off is not flukey

-getting pressure on the quarterback to sack him and strip him of the ball is not flukey

-disguising a defense and getting guys in the right positions to make plays on defense is not flukey

-forcing fumbles on ball carriers can be flukey, but getting turnovers in general IS NOT FLUKEY, and this team is just not getting it done

okay, and to answer your question about their last defensive touchdown....

AFC WILDCARD Match vs. Jaguars
Asante Samuel picks a pass off on a well disguised defense and takes it to the house on a return of at least 55 yards.

last defensive TD in a regular season game

2005 at Buffalo
the game was already well in hand....Bruschi tipped a pass near the line of scrimmage that came down right to James Sanders who proceeded to take it the distance for the score

While I agree that the "D" need's to create more turnovers, I don't think they're ineffective. In the first three games they gave up an average of exactly 17 points. With a Tom Brady led offense they should be able to score at least 21 most weeks.

The "D" is succeptible to the big play right now. They are mostly stout against the run and a vunerable through the air because they don't have a shut-down corner.

Then again, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Maybe the tallent level of the DB's just isn't good enough. Outside of Rodney, who else do they have out there...(Don't say Samuel. When was the last time he had an INT?)
