Troy Brown to formally retire

So there you go. Why anyone would take Herald blog speculation as fact any more is beyond me...

Maybe now a mod in this thread could change it's title...

My favorite TB play?

When he caught that high ball from Brady, anyone?, was it 2003, and the team was driving down the field for the score. I think it was the Carolina SB. Man what a catch.

Obviously this is just one of many but if I had to pick one, that was THE TB catch for me. He had defenders hanging off of him when he made that catch.

Troy man, thanks for all the memories. My first authentic Patriots Pro Shop jersey. To this day you are my most favorite Patriot.

You were awesome...

I can't imagine what someone would have to do to replace Troy as my favorite Patriot. Maybe if Welker spends another 10 years here and plays CB for a couple of years? I always felt better knowing Troy was on the field.

Probably my favorite Patriot of all time next to Brady because of his work ethic and humble approach.

Cant find the reference but at one point I believe Parcells said Troy Brown was (one of?) the best draft picks he ever made.

Best memories are easy:

OT Bomb Against Miami
Strip in SD January 2006
Reception during 'the drive' and gets out of bounds
Fake FG pass from Vinatierri to Brown @ St Louis

All those game changing punt returns and INT's on defense come to mind too.

Troy Brown - Official New England Patriots Biography

There's no award for playoffs MVP, but if there were, Brown would have gotten the award in 2001:

A. 10 or so receptions in Game 1
B. 2 ST TDs in Game 2
C. Solid contributions in Game 3

In my opinion then and now, that puts him ahead of a lot of other solid contributors, such as Brady, Vinateri, and all the guys who got one TO each and otherwise also played good D.

Then, years later, he was the ultimate self-sacrificing team player playing three ways.

And he had plenty of big plays in some other seasons as well.

After Brady, he's the most important Patriot player of the modern era. (And frankly, that's the only era I care about.)

Number 80 must be retired.

I just remember back in 1996 and 1997 when we had all these great players catching passes from Bledsoe : Glenn, Jefferson, Coates, Byers, Martin, Gash, Meggett...who would have thought back then that # 3 receiver Troy Brown would turn out to be the best of them all.

remember that catch he made during the game winning drive at Giants Stadium in 1996 when they came back from a 22-0 hole to beat the Giants and get the # 2 seed?

how about that game against the Chiefs in 2002 when he caught 16 passes?

He was here for so much. Guys like Troy Brown, Tedy Bruschi, Willie McGinest, Ty Law, Adam Vinatieri, who were here not only for this dynasty period but also were here during the Parcells and Carroll years I have a special place in my heart for.
