I'm planning trip to MA to visit fam 2nd or 3rd week of Aug. Is that too late in the year to attend any pats training camp sessions?

All camps are opening later than normal this season due to the atypically late start to the regular season. Week 2 should be fine in August and week 3 may be OK, also.

Camp usually opens sometime around July 24-27th..somewhere in there and goes for 3 weeks.

I think you will be squeezing right under the wire.

On a related note: are their any tours of Gillette Stadium? I can't seem to find any info on the official website.
