PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 7 - July 30

Hopefully Mazzoula is telling Vrabel to go for the 2 pt conversion every time, going for every 4th down and foregoing field goals for 3rd and 15 hail Mary attempts based on the analytics.
Crazy Joe was watching the field goal competition and said "cut both these losers, you won't be using this position anyway. Cut your punter too"

Chism has been very quiet so far in training camp. This is the first time I remember him being mentioned. He looks to be practice squad bound unless he starts to show what he showed in minicamp soon.
Chism has been mentioned a LOT to this point. It's just been with the 2s/3s.. He got a few reps with the 1st yesterday..

Take a step back.
For the previous 6 practices, Brown has been taking snaps JUST at center. Strange hasn't seen much, if any snaps at center and been primarily a LG.

The signing of Lidstrom and another offensive player tells me that the injury to Bradbury could be serious enough to land him on the IR.

So, moving Strange to 2nd Center to get him snaps while moving Brown to 1st is pretty significant. It means they think they're going to need Strange as a Jack of all trades and possibly as the back-up center.
Yeah the transaction wire and depth moves today don't seem like a good sign.

But after he got up yesterday and he limped off he didn't leave the field and after a minute or so he seemed like he was moving better and I even thought he might try to go again but the practice was basically over (Maye had run his last reps). I suppose he could have gone in and swelling got worse after taking off his shoes or something but I'm going to go by what I saw until he misses more time.

Wasn't the issue with him that he had little experience at center in college? Maybe they think he can make an immediate impact at LG while it will take time for him to learn how to snap the ball. I know there were a lot of dropped snaps early in camp. I think he was under center for them.

He had 1 full year at the starter at Center. But he was the back-up Center for 3 years.

There have been a total of 2 dropped snaps.. One by Wilson. One by Bradbury.

I chalk them both up to new Center / QB combination.

Remember that Brady walked into the locker room after his ACL injury. So we just won't know until the transactions are announced.

My overall point is positional battles/competitive situations are fluid during camp - especially in July and early August.

As of right now, Brown is ahead of Strange at C. Strange right now is the 4th center behind Bradbury, Wilson, and Brown.

As of right now Wilson is ahead of Strange and Wallace at LG. Right now Strange could be the 3rd, 4th or 5th guard. If Big Mike's backup can play LG better than Strange, Strange is at best the 4th guard.

That would potentially make Strange the 9th or 10th OL.

Someone gets hurt, he could move up. Someone plays better, he moves down.

Same goes for Wilson being deemed by Bedard as the winning for the LG competition on July 30th.

As of right now, Strange is fighting for roster spot.
All valid points. And to your fluid comment by yesterday's info Strange could have been called OL4 so I wouldn't overplay it in the other direction one day later. Especially since the depth isn't great. But he seemingly might have a much bigger fight than I would have expected.

Kind of a silly take to say LG competition is "over" after 3 padded practices and zero preseason games.
I don’t think so. Jared Wilson is just that good. The athlete Strange 69 is but with a better anchor for the hefty DTs. Like Quinnen Williams.

Yup Hollins has clearly beaten out so far in Training Camp?
I want to see Polk and Baker perform comparably to Bourne and Hollins. Haven’t yet. Downgrading talent just to save bucks is a quick path to a bad team.

If think Drake is primed for a huge year now that he has Josh and some of the new weapons along with an improved line.
I agree. If two guys stay healthy: Morgan Moses and Hunter Henry.

.

You realize he was a big reason it was a terrible offense, right?

.
Blaming our awful Offense on a rookie WR is somewhat strange. If he were so bad (he was) and the coaches so good, then they simply needed to sit Polk.

Strange is with the 1s. Can backup both LG and C. The 10th OL does not run with the 1s.

Great backup? I don't think that opinion is universally shared.

If hes the 10th offensive linemen on teh depth chart and has value he'll absolutely be a trade candidate.

This might be one of those instances where the rebuilding VS win now argument is fought.

Strange is in the last year of his deal. I don't think he's good enough to be a candidate as the veteran to rebuild an offensive line around.

Teams will be offensive line drooling in a few weeks. With the injuries, we are not far from that now.

With an extremely team friendly contract, Strange will have more trade value than perhaps he deserves.

I believe Strange will make the team without a good offer, but they might accept a draft choice that looks high for him.
