Trading one of our 2011 1st rounders?

Would you trade one of our 2011 draft picks to go up to get a players or to get another 2nd rounder? If we get another 2nd rounder we can use one of those 2nd round picks to trade down and get a 3rd and either a 4th or 5th.

If you would use it to go up after a player, which one would it be?

No, I'd rather hold onto those picks b/c I want to try to get Patrick Peterson the CB from LSU to be our next #1 CB and a deadly combo w/ Butler, and to possibly trade up with the other one to get one of AJ Green, Jonathan Baldwin, Julio Jones, or Michael Floyd. I think this is definitely possible if there is a rookie cap. It could be one hell of a first round.

I voted no, I think only bad/desperate teams trade future first round picks for second rounders. That said, I would trade on of the 2011 first rounders (the Patriots own first rounder obviously) to obtain a young, proven WR or OLB. The Patriots are short on elite players, and if they could land an elite player at either position by giving up a 2011 first, I would be all for it.

Heck no. In fact, I'd love to acquire a third 1st rounder next year if we can somehow pull it off.

Next year I really want at least two of Quinn, Peterson, Baldwin, Heyward, or Ingram.

Since this draft is considered so much better than next years i would have to consider traiding OUR #1 in next years draft and try to get a 2 and a 3 for this year. The Raider pick could very easily be a top Ten, which could then be turned into multiple picks, so i'd hang on to that one.

I wouldn't do it. There's going to be some solid prospects around in next year's draft as well as the possibility of the rookie pay scale being lower than it is now. On top of that, picking at #22 is not a bad position based on how deep this draft is. We can also pick up some pretty solid prospects with our second round picks as well.

I'm with you on this issue. There is a fairly good chance that a pick around #45 this year will yield a better player than pick #28 next year. Throw in the financial implications given the lack of a salary cap, and it's a no-brainer for the right player. I don't know who that player may be, but pending free agency, we need contributors now.[/em]

I also agree that if the Raiders pick is around #6, we'll be trading back anyway, until maybe #12-15 while picking up additional high picks in 2011 and/or 2012. While guys like Peterson, Ingram, and Jones are great players, they're certainly not unique. There will be another Peterson, Ingram, and Jones in 2012 and beyond. Unless Belichick thinks we'll be mediocre next year and have a pick in the #13-#21 range, I'd be disappointed if he didn't use a late pick next year to trade into this year. It's all about maximizing value. I'd also be okay if he traded the Raiders pick from next year to a medium-good team like Philadelphia for a #2 this year and a #1 next. We've got holes to fill, and with the UFA market limited by the uncapped year, we might night the draft to fill them.
