TRADE Wes Welker!

Chad Johnson
Wes Welker
Julian Edelman (Wes 2.0)
Brandon Tate
Deion Branch
Taylor Price (played well in his limited time last year)

That's 6 WR's.

We could easily ship Wes and not miss a beat. He's older now and didnt have such a great season last year.

What do you think we could get for West? Would you want to trade him?

Ok, let's assume we do trade Wes, we certainly don't do it now, training camp just started, you really don't know what you have in many of the other guys. How much have they developed? What happens if one of the other receivers gets injured and you already traded away one of TFB's favorites? Just because we have Chad doesn't mean he's going to be an automatic stud, he's going to need time to learn the offense and adapt to TFB's way of doing things.

You know how you don't count your chickens before they hatch? It's an especially bad idea to count them, sell them in advance, and then plan on paying your mortgage with the future receipts.

Holy smokes at the responses in this thread. There is some rationale to the trade if it happened. Do we all forget the Seymour trade?

Have you seen what some stiffs in Free agency have been offered? Next year Welker is going to be offered 8 mil a year and jump ship. (no way for a 31 year old slot WR pats will offer that)

(1) Most of those stiffs have been offered ridiculous long-term contracts. There isn't going to be nearly as many unspent $$s available next year.

(2) This is not analogous to the Seymour trade, as (a) Welker hasn't held out of camp looking for a new deal, and (b) is on record as saying that he's made more money than he ever thought he would make in the NFL, and doesn't particularly care about getting every last dollar.

(3) I can't think of a better way to p*ss off TFB than to trade Welker.

Thats somethin usual of this boards nowadays. You crazy for wanting Welekr out, but if Kraft trades him out, he was a selfish, on the wrong side of the 30, injury prone guy.

He was coming off a torn ACL. Of course his stats were down. Under the circumstances his stats were pretty amazing.
Like the other guy, you just didn't read the stats post carefully enough.

Last year, Welker's performance in 1TE sets was good. Last yaer, his performance in 2TE sets was not good.

Same knee, same year, same Welker, different # of TEs on the field.

The point of the poster was that he would like to see MORE 2TE offenses and therefore Welker makes less of a difference.

If the Pats do go 2TE, having Welker vs another slot receiver is not so important as Welker is not the same difference maker. I doubt the Welker gets re-upped after this year if BB goes 2TE a lot, which was VERY effective. In that case, it is Seymour all over again. What is most valuable to the team? One year of Seymour? Or five years of a first round pick (Solder). What is more valuable? One year of Welker or one year of Edelman PLUS five years of an OLB, CB, OT, S, whatever, starting next year?

It probably won't happen, but trade him this year of not is a legitimate question, and the stats do make sense when you understand them.

Worst idea ever. Welker epitomizes what a Patriot should be. Clutch. Effective. Perennially underrated. Said he doesn't deserve a new contract. No one in the league is like that. He's the best and should retire a patriot.

Why would you trade on of the greatest Patriots ever, historical record setting WR and the greatest slot WR who's ever played? And still for the most part in his prime? come on, thats ridiculous.

Too bad there is not a Hall Of Fame forum for these kinds of threads. I laugh every time I read this.
