Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in silver and blue

Thats precisely the reason that you go out and get a feature-back who can get you the 3rd and 2s and keep the defense honest.

Moss has been blanketed. Brady is 32 and needs a running game to keep him healthy and productive going in to his mid/semi-late 30s.

Although I don't think the deal will happen, a feature back will help the Pats maximize their investments.

My .02$

Agreed. Taylor was getting real close to becoming a feature back by default and frankly Morris is filling in nicely.

I'm all for "give LoMo more carries" chanting, if it's the next two games, but if he doesn't produce, I think we have to pull the plug or hope he gets dinged up or something.

Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in silver and blue

I'd make that trade for Maroney, a #2 next year and a #3 in 2011.

Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in silver and blue

Jackson would light up this offense as much as Dillon and Moss did when they arrived.

But, it's a high cap hit, and how would the Pats clear the cap space for him.

Plus, is St.Louis smart enough to trade him when he's still worth something ?

Well, the issue there is with the team up for sale, he is their most marketable player. A tough decision.

keep in mind next year will most likely be uncapped. SO PATS, GO SHOPPING!!!!!!!

No, but he wont run to the line of srimmage and take a knee.

Also would anyone be against a trade for Larry Johnson? An ultimate buy low type option? The guys offensive line is absolutley terrible and fans are trying to run him out of town

No to LJ. Yes to Barber or Jackson. I think Barber's stock is low with Choice doing so well and Felix Jones in the wings. Jackson is a stud, but I doubt he gets dealt because of the cap penalties the Rams would have to eat. Maroney + a 3rd rounder for Barber please. Or a 2nd rounder for Barber and a Dallas 3rd would also work.

I cannot recall the last time BB made a midseason trade. Can anyone confirm?

Doug Gabriel was after week 3 in 06 I believe. Pats shuttled a 5th rounder if I'm not mistaken..

it would be pretty cool to have barber and maroney on the same team - they were awesome together at minnesota - who knows maybe if we got the band back together it would be beneficial for both backs.

Gabriel was traded for September 2nd which was right before the start of the season.

The Pats haven't made any in season trade of note. But then again, in season trades of any significants have been a recent phenonmenon. In the past, a bigger name has been traded in season on a rare occassion. But in recent years, there has been several fairly decent size trades in season.

I doubt the Pats make a trade by Tuesday, but I don't rule it out. It definitely won't be Jackson though since the Rams can't trade the guy because of their own cap ramifications of the trade.

Robertw and Rob: thanks for confirming.

ESPN insiders has a new hypothetical trade of Jackson to the Pats from
Bill Simmons.

NFL Rumors - NFL Trade Rumors, Free Agency Rumors and More - Rumor Central - ESPN

During a recent appearance on the B.S. Report with ESPN.com's Bill Simmons, former NFL executive Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post discussed the possibility of the St. Louis Rams trading Steven Jackson before Tuesday's trade deadline.

The idea is intriguing, and Lombardi notes that the Rams could leverage Jackson in a trade similar to what the Dallas Cowboys did with Herschel Walker 20 years ago. Unfortunately, Lombardi says that the trade is somewhat unlikely, because unlike the other leagues, in the NFL selling off at the deadline sends a bad message to fans. The implication is that it will be tough to sell tickets to fans when they know that management has given up on trying to win this season.

But Simmons did propose a trade on behalf of the New England Patriots that Lombardi said, "the Rams would definitely think about." In this hypothetical world, the Patriots would send the Rams Laurence Maroney, the Oakland Raiders' first-rounder in 2011 that they got for Richard Seymour, and one of their own second-rounders for this upcoming April.

Jackson-to-the-Pats is a pretty unlikely scenario, but that would certainly shift the balance of power in the AFC back to Foxboro, would it not?

Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in silver and blue

Why do people read Florio? He has zero credibility.

Re: Florio says Steven Jackson would look good in silver and blue

a 1st, 2nd, AND Maroney??? I don't know. I'd love to have Jackson, but that seems like alot. I think i'd have to say no, and stay with what we have now. Which, if Brady has his mojo back, might be enough to run with.

Nashville Pats fan, eh? Today you will walk with your chin up and chest puffed out. It is a fine day, isn't it?

Firstly everyone is predicting that Sammy Morris is badly injured by the sounds of things.
Secondly BB has never traded during the season.
We still have 3 healthy RBs on the roster and thats if Morris is badly injured.

Imo this rumour is just the usual trade deadline day garbage.
