Tim Tebow, stop wasting your time learning to throw and convert to TE.

Is this a serious post?

Tebow converts to TE and by the time he becomes an effective TE (if he does at all) his rookie contract would be up by then.

People look too much into this combine and the numbers. Yeah the numbers are similar but we have no idea how tebow catches the football or if he can run effective routes and seperate from the defender as well as blocking skills for the TE position.

Dont know how special Gresham is going to be as he is coming off of an ACL tear but in 2008 its hard to argue that he was the best TE in college football.

Tebow's experience is in throwing and having people block for him yet you think he'd make a great TE, who catches and blocks for someone else.

So he'd be great at a position that requires the complete opposite of what he's ever done?

I bet Jason Wittens workouts are about the same. No-one can cover him. If you can play, you can play

Thats why you cant take these combines seriously. What these players did on the field during college is what matters most.

Don't be so sure about that. Tebow is smart and is extremely athletic. Who is to say that he wouldn't be able to convert to TE or H-Back? Let's not forget that we just had another former quarterback come in and play a different position admirably: Julian Edelman.

That said, I fully expect Gresham to have the better TE career (should both guys play that position in the NFL).

I definitely think Tebow could make the switch. He has the focus and excellent work ethic to get it done. The biggest issue for me is he has NO desire to play a position other than QB. So if you draft him to play TE/RB, he'll already start on the wrong foot setting him back a while. To me that's not worth a (old school term) "day 1" draft choice. If you draft him at QB he's still a project.

At this point I don't know why one would want to convert Tebow, it's obvious that his heart isn't in it and he's made some damn good progress on his footwork and he's improved his throwing motion.

I'd draft him, build up a solid line and running game and develop him for a year or two before playing him.

.

No....just...No!

Wasn't Tebow a TE in high school and a damned good one at that before he became a quarterback?

Nope. The guy is a high school legend in North Florida as a quarterback.

No way is Tebow a TE. At worst however he would make an intriguing H back.

Gresham ran much slower than I thought he would. At 4.7, most LBers can cover him.

I was very impressed with TE Pitta of BYU. He ran a 4.6 forty and the 27 reps really shocked me. Makes me think that he could be an effective blocker if given the chance and instruction.

Still need to see a few more TE's like Peek and Dray run before finalizing my Patriot type TE board.

I think Cody Slate might be excellent on the Patriots: he's something of a TE/WR/FB tweener and apparently has the acceleration to gain good separation from linebackers, the one knock on him is that he's a terrible blocker. That means he'll likely go undrafted but if he could improve his strength and blocking ability (which can be taught) he can be more lethal than Dallas Clark.

From what you are describing, he sounds more like a perfect fit for Indy and not us.

I'm not sold on Pitta. His arms are short and he's small to begin with at 245 which makes me think he can't block well. I'd have to look at tape though. No doubt he's a weapon in the passing game. I would probably want to convert him to H-back.

Why's that? We primarily use TEs to block, and that can be taught/trained, throw in that versatility, which BB has traditionally valued very highly, and you've got a dangerous weapon after being on the practice squad for a year.

No he was always at qb. I believe he went to a private school called Neese (not sure on the spelling).

This topic isn't even worth debating. We forget how good Gresham is because he was out last year.

Pitta blocks better than you'd expect coming out of BYU, though I'd think he'd be wasted in NE right now.

Receiving TE's are a primary staple of the Indy offense.

It sounds like teaching a player to block is easy. But the reality is blocking takes courage and usually guys that do not do it in college are the guys that lack courage. At the end of the day, courage can not be taught.
