This Week's Making The Club From the Tub

All three downs? He is not a good blocker at all. He simply lays of Pollard after knocking him down instead of standing there watching, and Brady plays last year. Also, he is not that great a pass catcher or a good short yardage back. What he is is a guy who will hit the hole fast and furious, and make yards after contact. But he has missed almost half the games since he's been here (played in 19, was injured and couldn't play in 16 (including playoffs)) and he is injured now.

THe big question is to me is how badly hurt he is. That might be the determining factor. If he can make it back in a couple of weeks, fine. If not, go with BJGE. As someone pointed out, BJGE's numbers are pretty typical for a journey back at the start of his career. In fact, BJGE's 2008 numbers are pretty close to Morris's first year.

I don't think this is a big deal and worthy of a lot of angst. Either way will be okay.

I think you missed my point - which is that he's first and foremost a ST player. And secondly, he's a backup RB who can play on any of the 3 downs. Notice I say backup. I don't think he's the best on this team at any of the 3 downs, but he's been used in all 3 capacities. And that's what makes him valuable. And BTW, Morris didn't finish that block, but that in itself doesn't make him a bad blocker.

I'm completely bewildered why anyone would want to cut Morris. Look at his production since he arrived, especially last season - he puts up the yards. I'm a big Maroney fan, but IMO Morris is our #1, and with a hugely affordable salary ($900k) to boot what's not to love?

I'm as bewildered as you. Morris has proven to be a better back that Maroney and I DO NOT see that changing - ever.

There are those who would cut Morris because he is injured yet again, and can't seem to stay on the field. Personally, I'd rather have Morris for half the games this year than to have Green-Ellis for all of them.

I personally hope the Patriots keep BJGE as the fifth running back
because I expect to see both Maroney and Morris to spend significant
time on the injured list.

I like BJGE too, but if you keep him you need to cut someone else who probably contributes more on STs.
