Actually,not a bad article from Borges....nice for a change.I was working in the yard this A.M. thinking about football,some possible scenarios this season with regard to RM. Perhaps he is the downside,time will tell.Maybe the DC 's from other teams will let him have single coverage,or wont bother to have their best corner cover him.That might be interesting!

As for Meriweather, his greatest fame came from a near riot between the Hurricanes and some members of Florida International’s team last season.

That quote makes it sound like Meriweather started the brawl, that the ENTIRE Miami team was involved and that it was MIAMI that started the brawl. Its totally inaccurate. FIU started the brawl and there were players on both teams who weren't invloved.

I just got done writing a letter to the editors of PFW complaining about Borges article. I don't believe it will make a difference, but it can't hurt.

What a poor exuse for an article. He isn't saying anything that hasn't been said many times before by writers who just don't get the way the Patriots do things. Borges may not get the Patriots, but he is a pretty good writer; this article is so lazy he probably wrote wrote it while driving to work or in the bathroom or something.

Or maybe Borges is really working for Belichick by writing critical articles that server as a consistent source of bulletin board fodder.

Biased, slanted, pathetic. Absolutely nothing of value here.

The whole point of the article is undermine the image of the Patriots, about whom Borges has been so so wrong over and over again. If these two players do badly, then he can say "I told you so". If they do great, it's not because the organization is good, it's because "they are just like everyone else".

What you will not hear from this pathetic hack is the truth: that if these moves help the team, or even help win a SB, they are what most rational league observers believe - sheer genius.

Borges has been a contributor to PFW for years. This is nothing new, and in fact this article was published in the small window after his suspension ended but prior to his departure from the Globe.

As to the notion that the Pats' philosophy has changed... another lie in a long list of lies by a professional liar.

It was widely reported that the Pats intended to select Maurice Clarett at #32 in the 2004 draft. When the courts ruled Clarett ineligible as a freshman entry, they then decided to trade for Dillon, the story goes. Len Pasquarelli repeated this assertion as fact during the reports on Clarett's recent violent arrest, by way of illustrating Clarett's "fall from grace". Personally, I think the idea is rubbish. But it just goes to show that these same knuckleheads who claim that the drafting of Merriweather signifies a paradigm shift in Patriot philosophy, were predicting the Pats would draft the notorious Clarett in 2004. The inconsistency and hypocrisy of certain media members is stupefying (Yes, I'm talking about you Farrah Fawcett Felger & Co.).

What I find in reading this article is how IRONIC it is. The Pats have won 3 superbowls utilizing great schemes, and a LOT of good by not "great" players, who were willing to sacrifice personal glory for the team. The Pats basically have ALWAYS said, if you are willing to play WITHIN our system, we would love to have you.

What is so BS about the media storm created by the Moss and Merriweather acquisitions is that IT IS the MEDIA who created the mythos of the Pats "high character players". So it is just like the media to BUILD up an individual or group, so they can GLEEFULLY tear them down at the first SIGN of a glitch.

What pisses me off about this whole thing (and it is certainly not just BORGES), is the FACT that the Patriots HAVE GOTTEN all their players to adhere to a "high character" both on the field AND off, once they get HERE. AND that is how they should be judged.....on what they do, and how they act once they get HERE.

No Ron, those people DID shoot a friend of Meriweather's,his roommate Willie Cooper in the buttocks and if coming to the aide of a friend makes you, in Borges' words "troublesome" then Ron has no idea what Monday's holiday is for because there are a lot of good people buried in Arlington and other cemeteries who laid down their lives coming to the aide of a friend or comrade under fire.
Perhaps if Meriweather had gone after somebody who walked with a cane Borges could have related to it.

This is the quality of article that makes me think that I (and many others) could easily perform the job of 'sports writer'.

Most of the Moss observations , while true, have been flying round the NFL media ever since the Patriots made the trade - there is nothing new enough, or intersting enough, to warrant re-hashing it all over again.

The Brandon Merriweather situation falls victim to the writer using sensationalist terms/langauge in order to paint a pictire of a guy.

The mentioning of the gun incident for eample, Merriweather was totally cleared of any wrong doing yet it still features in a segment regarding 'player character'.

For years, the media has force fed the public a steady diet of BS about the Patriots and their band of untalented, high character guys - I say BS because these guys didn't win those past SB's by just being good team mates - they won it by being able to execute better than the other team on the day.

The Patriots look for guys who are willing to buy into the team ethic, which has nothing to do with being an angel off or on the field.

Selfish, egotistical displays will not be tolerated - and that applies whether you are Reche Caldwell or Randy Moss.

Time to find a new day job, Borges.
