The Media is all onboard the Varitek train.... Mazzerotti, Shaunessey, Buckley, Ordway....ect have all been banging the Tek drums.

They think the sky will fall if we do not resign the NOSTRADAMAS of signal calling.

I watch the HotStove on the MLB network every night. There is a update with no info on Varitek just about every night.

Last night the rolling ticker at the bottom of the screen reported that the Red Sox have a standing offer on the table for Vartiek.

I am sure this is a offer far below the 10+ million Varitek would have received if he had accepted arbitration.

He had his chance at arbitration and he blew it.

If Varitek wants to be a Red Sox player this year he will sign the offer. If he wants more money he can rob a bank or sell a kidney in south america.

The Sox overpayed for Tek 4 years ago. They gave him an offer that no other team would have given him. There were no teams chasing Tek in 2005, and even less in 2009.

If he wants to play for the Red Sox, he will sign the offer that is on the table. The days of over paying for Tek are over. Russell Martin just signed a 1 year 3.9 million dollar contract to avoid arbitration. Tek is no longer in the Russell Martin league.

The Sox hold all the chips in this card game.

I trust Theo's judgement over the media. The same media that was calling for the Patriots to go out and sign a Dante Culpepper when Brady got hurt. They thought Belichick screwd up by not having a Brad Johnson/Dante Culpepper veteran on their roster. I also remember the media (not all) favoring Bledsoe over Brady. How did that decision work out?

Well I trust Belichick and Theo's decisions far more than I trust the views of the media.

The word is it's a $4 Million 1 year deal. If Tek signs eleswhere before June the Sox get a 1st round pick. If Tek waits it out he probably can get $4 million or maybe a bit more from a desperate team. Knowing Boras a team has made an offer to sign Tek after June 1st.

I say screw Tek ... but I'm not a Sox pitcher.
Personally i have never liked the guy ... repected him for his ability ... that's about it.

I'd be surprised if he took 1 year at $4 million. It's the right money for his production, but I think he feels he's worth a lot more. He should fire Boras for having him decline arbitration.

I thought that at first World ... but i think he already has an offer to sign after June 1st ... I mean it's BorAzzHole that we're talking about here. Tek played a year in an independant league before he turned pro ... he had BorAzzHole at that time also.

Let him sign after June 1. Maybe they want Mr Intangibles in Japan.

Deadline for Varitek at WEEI Blogs

$5 million for the first year, along with a club option for $5 million or a $3 million player option in year 2. I like this a lot. I think he accepts because I really doubt anyone tops this and I think he wants to retire a member of the Red Sox.

Your name should be Captain Obvious.

Why would you bring up the contract numbers of a catcher who is still under team control? Makes no sense.

"Maybe they want Mr Intangibles in Japan."

Actually, he plays in New York and his name is Derek Jeter, aka, Captain Intangibles; you know, he does nothing (and I mean nothing) great, but does everything pretty good.

Well he used to anyway since he lost his range, power and bat speed. I pray to God the Yankees back up a Brinx truck when his contract is up so "He can retire as a Yankee" when he clearly is on the downward slope and will continue to be.

And if Giambi the moron slides, he's safe too by the way.

I'Rod can't even get a $2.5M 1 year deal, why would Tek be able to get a $4m deal elsewhere.

As to intangibles, if VTek's calling is so great, why isn't there any change between him and X as far as pitcher ERA goes?
