The Media is all onboard the Varitek train.... Mazzerotti, Shaunessey, Buckley, Ordway....ect have all been banging the Tek drums.
They think the sky will fall if we do not resign the NOSTRADAMAS of signal calling.
I watch the HotStove on the MLB network every night. There is a update with no info on Varitek just about every night.
Last night the rolling ticker at the bottom of the screen reported that the Red Sox have a standing offer on the table for Vartiek.
I am sure this is a offer far below the 10+ million Varitek would have received if he had accepted arbitration.
He had his chance at arbitration and he blew it.
If Varitek wants to be a Red Sox player this year he will sign the offer. If he wants more money he can rob a bank or sell a kidney in south america.
The Sox overpayed for Tek 4 years ago. They gave him an offer that no other team would have given him. There were no teams chasing Tek in 2005, and even less in 2009.
If he wants to play for the Red Sox, he will sign the offer that is on the table. The days of over paying for Tek are over. Russell Martin just signed a 1 year 3.9 million dollar contract to avoid arbitration. Tek is no longer in the Russell Martin league.
The Sox hold all the chips in this card game.
I trust Theo's judgement over the media. The same media that was calling for the Patriots to go out and sign a Dante Culpepper when Brady got hurt. They thought Belichick screwd up by not having a Brad Johnson/Dante Culpepper veteran on their roster. I also remember the media (not all) favoring Bledsoe over Brady. How did that decision work out?
Well I trust Belichick and Theo's decisions far more than I trust the views of the media.
