What is the best way to fix this?
Are there any good free agents this year? Who in the draft is good?
Draft and/or hope Tavon Wilson progresses well enough. Goldson and Reed (if he even returns) will probably get big offers elsewhere. I've been saying all year Gregory can be a valuable contributor but probably shouldn't be the one we rely on to play a majority of snaps.
Ed Reed or DashonGoldson. But, both probably re-sign with their teams...
GOldson came to town for a visit in 11. We let him go home.
boo hoooo.
Wasn't the story the Patriots offered him a multi-year deal and he only wanted a 1 year prove it deal instead?
It's a shame our "Next Rodney" safety draft picks haven't panned out. Meriweather and Chung both looked like they were going knocking at the door and then flamed out when we expected them to take that next step. I can't imagine Chung getting big money on any team in the league, and Meriweather can't stay on the field.
As I said, I'd rather have Bernard Pollard on our team for some hard hitting. If Pollard hadn't hurt Brady we'd all be falling over ourselves to try and get him. Sure we'll be getting some 15 yard penalties, but watching Gregory chase people around all night was incredibly frustrating.
If you cannot beat him (Pollard), sign him. That way he does not knock-out future Patriots!
It's win-win. He hits other players hard and we don't have to deal with him hurting one of us (except maybe in practice).
Kenny Vaccaro, Texas (FS)
Eric Reid, LSU (FS)
Matt Elam, Florida (SS)
Phillip Thomas, Fresno State (FS)
are generally among the most highly-regarded safety prospects.
I don't think any of them carry a "can't miss" tag
At this point, the Patriots probably need an enforcer in the secondary who makes hits. Few of them make the smart play as it is.and Tony Jefferson (Oklahoma), assuming he declares, right?
I've seen a lot of Reid. Not a huge fan. Goes for hits instead of making the smart play.
