And we saw the usefulness again last night. There is something exotic about watching the running back follow the FB into the first down or endzone territory.
I think Roberts is built for it actually....and wouldn't cost us a roster spot. I doubt many teams will run a lot against our D down the stretch...so Roberts can play two ways and still get some rest when we are on D.
Or you could look at it the other way, that trying out four different players from various positions is a sign that they have nobody, and really need a FB.
The TE play of Watson and Tomlinson was much better than what Izzo and LaCosse gave for the first 6 games, if they can fill in at FB with defenders and OL then the blocking can be much improved all around.
The Jets defensive front is extremely tough, three TD's for Sony and converting on short downs was impressive.
Don't just look at the rushing totals, that's a hard defense to run the ball on, especially with Mosley and Quinnen Williams back in their lineup.
Watson, too, lined up at FB a couple times that I saw, including on one of Michel's TD runs.
I was really convinced the Pats were going to toss a conditional 7th or a 6th to 7th pick swap to Denver to get Beck back from the Broncos, but if they were going to do that they probably would have by now. So maybe this just is the plan going forward.
