The Official Patriots vs Cardinals POST game thread

My question about the D is this:

Why not put chandler jones on the left to flush kolb out the other way? Throwing to the left is much harder for a right handed QB.

It's never right to "blame" the Kicker, because it's not on him that the game comes down to one kick. In addition, once you're beyond 40 yards, there's a one in four chance that our guy misses the kick, which is about the same as any good Placekicker.

But, when the game is on the line, a Kicker has a chance to distinguish himself and show that he brings a little something extra to the table, especially with a longer, pressure-packed kick when conditions aren't perfect, either because of the snap-and-hold or the weather.

There is only one pure Kicker in Canton because very few Kickers get the chance consistently on the big stage to show that there is something different about them. That's why Adam Vinatieri will go to Canton and why many really good kickers with record book stats like Gostkowski, who miss kicks like today's, will never be in that discussion.

I don't trust Gotti. That said, I think the hold was off too. And FWIW I think I read Adam kicked the game winner for Indy today. A 53 yarder.

Tough but (IMHO) deserved loss.

UP

Chandler Jones
LLoyd
Edelman
Spikes
GRONK

DOWN

L
Playcalling
The crowd
The injury to AH

I would add McCourty as up and Arrington and Brady as down.....Brady has been too inconsistent, especially on passes longer than 20 yds.....I know he's under duress, but sometimes the Qb,just HAS to run......Brady,just won't consider this option.

Wish Brady could hit the deep ball like RGIII.........wow....the kid did it again

He just does not have the right receivers to throw those deep balls. Our attack is not built to make big plays easily.

Please post your comments and knee jerk reactions about today's tough loss on this thread.

I"m upset with 2 things.

1. the so called holding call on Gronk during Woodhead's TD run.
2. some of the fans at the game booing the team in the first half. They have the right to do so but they shouldn't do that, they sounded like spoiled cry babies.

Make that 3 things: The injury to AH. Glad to hear it was an ankle but he might miss several games.

Thought provoking. Ironically, many of the fans booing the players are booing because they feel that the players, ( Tom Brady made a cool $1.25 million dollars for his three hours on his home field today in perfect weather ), are playing like spoiled cry babies.

The players look up into the stands and see the guy who hangs dry wall 60 hours a week and saves his last dollar to go to the game, booing what he sees on the field, and thinks that the fan is a "spoiled cry baby".

40+ yard field goals, with no time remaining, are not gimme's.

I always laughed at coaches who, with over 1 minute to go, would run it (or take a knee) when they reached the opponent's 25 yard line - in effect settling for a 40+ yard field goal. I recall numerous amounts of games lost by 2nd rung coaches who made such mistakes. A 42 yard field goal with no time remaining is vastly different than the kicks Ghost was making earlier in the game. I never thought Belichick would make this mistake, especially with Brady at the helm. A 30 or less yarder is a gimme. A 35 yarder? Maybe. A 40 yarder is probably a 50-50 proposition. OK, with Ghost it's probably 70%. But, even that kind of risk is unnecessary when you have Brady who almost certainly (90+%) will be able to get you an extra 10 yards or so with 1 minute remaining.

The pats did not play well. However the D did their part but causing a fumble. Offense got better and did their part by getting the team in FG range with a chance to win. At the end of the day Ghost cost this team the game. Not surprising because he is simply not clutch. He is your man if you want a 50 yard FG in the 1st. However you need a FG 41 yard with a chance to win expect a shanked kick that will miss by 10 feet to the left.

Ravens lost today as well so between today and how the pats booted them out of the playoffs last year they will be out for blood. Don't see how the Pats can win that game after the mess we witnessed today.

I think we should take Edelman off the up list just because he fell on AH..

Actually the holding call was right on the money.....Scott Zolak agrees.

The refs didn't take anything away from us. The loss was a culmination of many things and to actually think the refs "didn't want us to win" sounds like....and I say this not to insult but to encourage some reflection.....how Oakland Raider fans react after a loss.

Sorry...had to say it.

It was a bad call. John Lynch said so himself.

See how that works?

Yeah, it's kind of a salt in the wound sort of thing, ain't it. I just can't help but thinking that the hold was the last thing on anybody's mind when Adam kicked that line drive 45 yards into the teeth of a blizzard to tie the snow bowl.

The hold was poor, but the play calling and the false start by Gronk was friggin' criminal, imo:bricks:

Everything is Edelman's fault

Whenever there's this much dispute over a call, it usually means that it was close enough that most people will say it was right unless, if you're disappointed in the result, you try to blame it for the loss instead of the other 130 or so plays in the game.

Yeah I know that. So All Ninko has to do it set the edge and Jones can funnel Kolb to the left.

I agree and was surprised that Belichick played that so conservatively. At least it is only Week 2 and this game may end up serving as a great wake up call for the rest of the season. I expect the Pats will come back strong and beat the Ravens.

Edelman was tackled into AH and then a second Arizona D-lineman hit him when he was on the ground on top of AH.. Can't blame Edelman for that.
