The need for Gonzo is glaring..

No way I resign this ****ing sally. Not worth it. 9/10 times if you're an injury guy you don't suddenly become a guy who doesn't miss games. Terry Glenn was a hamstring guy, Gronkowski was an injury guy, Davante Parker was an injury guy. These guys all miss a ton of games and their absence kills the team. Just about guarantee this ****ing skirt wearing pansy Gonzalez comes back, plays a game or two, and gets another booboo and misses the rest of the season. hamstrings are preventable. hydrate, stretch, massage and you won't pull a hamstring. obviously this jackass doesn't care. take care of your body like a professional athlete should and you won't get a hamstring pull.
I'm afraid I have to agree with you. I will be shocked if he ever has 75% active season.

Even in the 7th year, we can choose whether to compete with other teams for a that year's $30M CB's.

This is a fine plan that gives the team options each year.
Agree 100%. Gonzo is a need on this team. He knows it, Vrabel knows it and Gonzo agent's know it. When Davis misses time... as he usually does from injury of some sort.. the need for Gonzo will even be more apparent.

Gonzo is a problem which will either solve itself or will not. It probably will, of course, but it's a pure guess when.

I am much more concerned with the sloppy play and lack of discipline and other problems and with Vrabel's soft-as-a-grape manner of dealing with them. Turns out the ridiculous game ball for the dual f'up kicker was the drooping canary in the coal mine. Add to that jettisoning players obviously better than the guys you kept, the excuse-making, the lack of decisiveness in applying the-best-man-plays approach, the penalties and the hc's expressed indifference to the problem, and you have - possibly, we have to say at this point - the makings of a problem that might not solve itself.
When vrable was hired Taylor Lewan of tenn put out a short video. In the video he warned the patriots players to keep they're heads on a swivel and keep they're sht tight. I took that to mean vrable could be a hard ass, but i don't get that vibe so far.

I'd probably keep Gonzo through his fifth year option, then franchise tag him in the sixth year. Really give him a lot of runway to prove he's not truly "injury prone". If he proves you wrong, well, he'll get a massive extension on that seventh year. If he proves you right, you let him go, but at least you aren't paying $30M+ a year for a guy who isn't on the field enough.

That said, perhaps there's room for a contract extension with lower guarantees and more incentives. Doubt his agent will want to go for that though.
The way it's trending right now this is reasonable.

Hopefully he gets on the field this week plays the rest of the year at top form and then we can still consider an early deal.

Yeah when you're in the AFC Championship every year and winning divisions it's much easier to just move on from someone like Gonzalez, when your secondary blows and you've been the dregs of the league for 2 1/2 years and you've barely hit on a draft pick for the last decade trading your best player for any kind of draft capital doesn't seem appealing.

Gonzalez will have to be paid or at worst traded for another elite level player, until the Patriots show they can hit draft picks trading him for even what looks like a haul even a 1st and a 3rd for example doesn't mean anything if you can't nail the picks, it just means you gave away your best player for 2 more stiff who can't play.

If the hammy is that bad and can linger for years, not worth the risk of resigning him then.

Not like that decision needs making today though

As Alex Barth said, he's losing money sitting out like this when it has been reported there were "no set backs". The bar is set so low for NFL players these days, he'd get the brinks trucks backed up if he's out there at 80-85% health. He's either getting really bad advice or his hamstring is worse than what we are led to believe.

My first thought was”how is Gonzo going to stop turnovers by our offense?”

What’s glaring is that the whole team has got to play better.

Looking for any player, even Gonzo, to come charging in on a white horse to save the day is magical thinking, not facing reality.

If the players are thinking like that it’s no wonder they’re playing like **** while they wait for their savior. It’s a red herring that distracts from accountability and improvement by everyone else on the roster.

Situation is wierd with gonzo, I didn't see that he's practicing isn't Wednesday the players day off?

Hopefully he can go... if not it's....

I still say it’s the Bills. I just think that’s Vrabel’s way of saying that he is progressing normally with practice.
