You guys on full bail-out mode yet? that 4.55 doesn't bode well for him. he was being touted on his supreme speed and what not. On the other hand, the 20 reps was impressive, along with the vertical. I never thought much about him (size), but having him fall into the 3rd/4th would simply put him on a list of options as far as I'm concerned. I could see, Philly, for one going after him as a replacement for Westbroook. I still don't think he's got much to offer us (or anybody with that frame), but I wouldn't mind seeing Joique Bell (?, 6.84, ?), Ben Tate (4.43, 6.91, 26) or even a Montario Hardesty (4.49, 6.87, 21) (40, 3-cone, bench, ?=not in top ten) wouldn't be bad picks in the 3rd-5th range (Spiller: 4.55, ?, 20. I would be ecstatic if we can get Tate, how does the 4th best RB from Auburn go so unnoticed, because he plays in the same conference as the Heisman winner? Both Tate and Hardesty have contributed in the passing game, and I think Bell was used sparingly (ran all over everyone in DII anyway, why bother?).

Too bad Tate had a pretty good combine. I was hoping he'd be a tad slower to keep him in the 4th. I'd have to imagine he jumps to the 3rd with this, Burgess is looking worse and worse

I'm sure he's faster when you watch the game tape but that 4.55 forty was just awful for someone who is 5'8" 175 pds.

I'd be happy if we could get Ben Tate or Jahvid Best.

I was at the Cotton Bowl two years ago when he beat my Red Raiders by himself. Now as an alum of Tech I'll admit we don't play defense worth a damn, however this guy is a Percy Harvin type. We missed on Percy last year, lets not let this guy pass.

The speed may not be elite, but the quickness and instincts are, ala Wes Welker. It's just that we have a Welker and Eddelman, so McCluster would be triplicating the slot receiver type.

Do you believe that BB traded out of the first round last year because Harvin was off the board?

170 LBS ....won't last long. Off hand i can't remember anyone this lite making it for any leanth of time in the NFL

Dissapointed in the 40. Sure looks like he plays faster.

I don't see him having much use in the backfield, except maybe for screens, quick pitches etc. In can't believe he'd be too useful split wide, and can't imagine he'd have much more success than Wes or Edelman. There is no way his diminutive frame holds up to a punishing hit by a medium sized safety, let alone the abuse of a run between the tackles, right at the fatties and linebackers. On the other hand, it looks like my binky (tate) will be moving up the board with his combine performance. A late 2nd might be a bit of a reach, and I think the pick may be best used elsewhere. That would also leave Harding, and Bell in the later rounds as pretty good options.

I'll agree that McCluster looks like a lightning bolt on the field, but that time can't bode well for him.

I'm not the person you asked, but I doubt it.

[I refuse to take Brad Childress' word that the Pats told Harvin they would take him at 23; BB is not that stupid.]

No I'm not jumping off the bandwagon. I will go with his game production. Saw him in two games and he was fantastic. Hope he falls and we take him.

I'm with you on Tate. With his combine performance, he may go in the 2nd round. Nevertheless, as an Auburn fan and veterinary grad., I am happy for him.

word on tate is he can't catch out of the backfield...it's very hard to figure what a RB can do here in NE as we have no line to speak of.

Not true at all. He had over 400 yds receiving his senior year. don't know where you saw that...

I think you're confused on players, Tate had about ~300 yards receiving his entire career. McCluster had 520 his senior year, about ~1500 for his entire career.

Oops. You're right. I just looked it up. He had 336 yds for his career. I must have "misremembered"!

I'd still love to draft him because I think he can not only play the slot but be a 3rd down back who can tote the rock like Sproules or Bush in certain situations and if you motion him out of the backfield most LBs still aren't sticking with him. He should be good on special teams as well. I believe he can pass block effectively which in this offense is important. I really like the versatility and believe BB will as well.

i have a tough time putting a 175# midget in position to keep a pissed off Ray Lewis flying up the middle away from Tf'nB. Tate has been said to have pretty good hands (have merriweather show him the jugs machine ), not sure where the no catch thing came from. Everything I've seen says he is a all purpose back that has shown trouble making people miss once through the hole. Not much in the way of detractors though.

Before people are ready to jump ship on McCluster:

Wes Welker:

height: 5'9" weight: 185
40 yard dash: 4.6

Dexter McCluster:

height: 5'9" weight: 172
40 yard dash: 4.58

If he falls to the 3rd, I say trade up and get him. Couldn't he weigh 180 by opening day?

But you are comparing a WR to a RB, which makes no sense at all. how many 180 RB's are in the league? Not many that I can think of. Tough to take much of a pounding with such a slight frame.

Oh, sorry for not stating. I think McCluster has no chance at being a starting runningback at the next level. Either a slot receiver or a scat back.

I agree with the other posters in that sense.
