Player Signing The Josh Gordon Thread: Pats Officially Acquire Gordon for Fifth-Round Pick

OK...whew..this thread is busy...now first...I'm terribly sorry to burst Patjew's Bubble Of Beauty but..."sign the beast!" was first observed being used by the wild rhesus like denizens of the old Miami Herald Dolphins Board, back in the late 90's. It quickly became adopted by the Jet fans who frequented that board, and became in essence,the epitome of the Jet frontrunner. I truly believe that Patjew picked up on the phrase after reading a number of screeds mocking these same Jet fans and an increasing number of new Pats fans here, who only needed a 40 time and keyboard to declare every new player a team signs as a "beast!". Now granted I'm talking decades ago almost so I won't dispute that Patjew is the originator of its' regular use here. However "sign the beast" has been around so long it's got a long beard and cataracts.

Secondly, StockingAnarchy#12 is going off GANGNAM style...I am truly shocked.

I'm surprised so many in the media and here are so against this. The Patriots were going nowhere this year with what they had at the WR position. Even once Edelman got back, they would essentially be playing a WR2 as the WR1, a WR3 as the WR2 (Hogan), a WR4 as the WR3 (Dorsett), and a WR5/STer as the WR4 (Patterson). If Edelman or Gronk gets banged up again (not out of the realm of possibility), they're screwed. The Patriots have a plethora of picks this year and a 5th isn't a bad use of one for a guy who, if his head is screwed on right, is a true difference maker. He threatens every level of the field and once he gets the offense down, can be trusted to be where Brady needs him. He'll demand double teams and the defense's top CB which will leave everything underneath wide open for guys like Edelman and Hogan to do some serious damage. Edelman should have a ton of one-on-ones again for the first time in a while in his career. So the reward part of the ratio far exceeds the risk. If he flops, gets suspended, or his career ends, the only thing they had to part with was a 5th round pick in a draft where they were already loaded with picks.

It's worth the shot.

BTW, after the Gordon trade was announced as a done deal, BB still refused to say a deal had been made.Don't know what it means but..

It was because when BB was asked that question Gordon had not yet taken his physical, so the trade was not yet official.

I'll tell ya why. Our buddy Andy is the exception as he's has football reasons (wont learn the playbook fast enough, taking opportunities away from current players which will ****** their development, etc) . Those are reasonable arguments. I heard Nink basically say this place will put too much pressure on Josh and in his frame of mind might not be ready for the 24/7 grind on being a player on this team.

Everyone else who is against this is either hung up on stupid late round draft picks and even though they won't admit it, don't want to root for an addict. They want to sit on their high horse and be able to pass judgement on how this team should win ballgames. They are the same people who were against Moss, Haynesworth, Britt, Floyd, etc.

Here's the breakdown by Lazar. Seems like Gordon's got the nuances of route running down. Question will be if he can get up to the Patriots offense quickly or not. It's always problematic adding a receiver after training camp.

And on top of which, I think the marriage between Josh Gordon and the Browns was a complete disaster because both are very dysfunctional.

I can imagine the Browns doing something like warning Gordon "to grow up, be a man, and get your **** together!" which is the worse possible thing you could say to someone who has substance problems. And of course, when that failed, the Browns probably just thumbed the yellow pages and ended up hiring a 22 year old white preppy graduate of the Yale school of psychology to be this guy's substance abuse counselor.

Worth a watch. About 11 months old or so. Mostly information we knew, but it’s worth observing Gordon and how he speaks and thinks. I came away really impressed with how sharp he seems to be. I’m thinking he probably can learn the playbook this year, to be honest. He really does seem rather intelligent.

The timing of this signing is perfect. Seems NE acquired him right when things seem to be “clicking” for him. Hopefully it works out. He can be DOMINANT when/ if his mind is right.
