I've never seen a QB improve processing ability more than a little bit. Milton is slow to process, below average for an NFL QB. Maye is really good and probably elite at it.
It's impossible for Milton to ever be a better processor than Maye. Granted Josh Allen is not a great processor but he's not below average either. If you went through all the qualities of a QB, Milton has a stronger arm and is bigger. Every other quality Maye has over Milton.
If Milton could be a 1% outlier of all historical QB's he can develop and be better than Maye. A 1% shot is a shot but considering he'll not play if Maye is playing, he won't be doing that development here.
There is less than ZERO chance Milton beats Maye out for the job.
Just some facts for you and not conjecture...
2022 season
ACC championship game NC vs Clemson
Clemson won 40 to 10.
Maye had 0 touchdown passes... 2 interceptions and a fumble
A few weeks later...
2022 Season
Orange bowl Tn vs Clemson
Tn wins 34 to 14
Milton had 3 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions and no fumbles.
The dude is 6 5 and 240, he can throw a football over a mountain.
And beat maye up with one hand.
But mayes got a better football iq...
We shall see.
Milton could be one of the only positives of the Mayo/wolf experience...
"He was an upper-body thrower when [he came to Tennessee] and one goal was to make him a lower-body thrower -- driving off the back foot and letting the arms put the ball where it needs to go," Halzle said, identifying the change as a catalyst for Milton's improved accuracy over time.
Few expected much from Brady that year as the 199th pick, which is similar to the spot where Milton -- who along with the rest of the rookie class arrived in town Thursday -- finds himself.
Halzle pointed out that even though Milton is 24 years old, he has less experience than other prospects, in part due to "a little bit of a bad shake" in which injuries contributed to him twice losing his grip on the No. 1 spot on the depth chart -- first at Michigan, then initially at Tennessee."
Even after drafting Drake Maye at No. 3, the Patriots selected another QB on Day 3. Here's why, plus other notes out of New England.

I hope vrabel tests them both.
