It is no different than the hate for the Yankees or the Cowboys in the 80s. When you have a lot of success, people hate you. I think Belichick doesn't help. I love him as a coach, but I can see why non-Pats fans could hate his guts.

I think the reason why Peyton Manning is so loved is that he rarely wins when it counts. He is safe to like. Awesome skills, but he chokes in the playoffs.

I personally think he is a spoiled crybaby and a horrible leader, but when you see those Papa John's commercials or when you go back to the days of "Cut That Meat," he comes off as down to earth - and that influences opinions.

His ad persona is part of it, but he wouldn't have gotten all those commercials if he wasn't so loved nationally and I think that was because he was a great QB who didn't have multiple Super Bowl rings (didn't have any at the point he started to do a lot of commercials).

Look at Andrew Luck. People seem to love him as much as they loved Peyton three years into his career. The things both had/have in common is they were/are both good QBs who haven't won anything.

People loved Brady when he was the underdog 6th round draft pick who won a Super Bowl. But by the time he won his third, most of the country felt he was a Hollywood pretty boy who is arrogant.

I agree and that really irritates me. I think he is a guy who simply values his privacy, but that comes off to many people as standoffish.

For the first 40 years of this franchise ( with an occasional exception), the Patriots were the lovable losers living a nomadic existence or playing in a stadium with metal benches and poor plumbing....For the last 15 years, they have been the "black hats" of the league winning consistently in an era where teams are not supposed to do so and that festers jealousy...intense jealously..obsessive jealousy in some...
It's a lot more fun to be winning, even if the team and its fans are perceived to be the bad guys.....

The Manning love started in Tennessee (obviously) and I think a lot of the media narrative with him is the family lineage. Before anyone knew a thing about Peyton's character they were felating him because of his pops and that set the stage; the fact that he's been legitimately great (and he has, just not when it counts) and makes funny commercials has just fed the beast.

And that said, there are a lot of champions who either 1. the media gushes over and/or 2. fans around the country love or at least respect. I'm thinking about Montana, Jordan, Elway, Gretzky, Bird, Magic, Jeter; all guys with multiple championships in their sports who the media treated as gods and who are generally well respected across the country. Brady's biggest misdeeds are 1. wanting to take advantage of his fame (i.e. marrying supermodel, going to big events and walking red carpets...making himself appear 'elite' in the tabloid media), and 2. having Belichick as coach, who everyone, EVERYONE around the country hates, and many are convinced he's been cheating this entire time.

Brady's taken advantage of his fame but he still leaves it all out on the field, that's all I care about. But people around the country don't like seeing the superstars being happy and living the life of the rich and famous, because people are jealous assholes and use him having fun with his money as 'proof' that he's 'arrogant' and 'elitist'. And Belichick is the third rail for most people, he could save twenty babies and ten kittens from a burning building and people would say he lit the fire himself.

Considering it's inherent as a fan of some other team to find the flaws of the other teams, this is a pretty tame list.

They don't actually believe that any "cheating" helped them to win. This is something they say in order to downplay their own jealousy. Nothing more.

You can see the amount of respect/fear they have for the Pats whenever they list teams that will be roadblocks for them to get to the SB or to win it. The Pats are always among the top teams. They are also among the top teams other fans want their own team to emulate.

No, it's just a way for them to down play the success of NE and to make themselves feel better about their own team's failure. Jealousy and envy are at the core of all Pats haters.

31 fan bases around the league jockey for position thinking their team is our "rival". In a few months, the Patriots will play 13 different teams..........I wonder of those 13.....how much of each fan base thinks the Patriots is the biggest game on the schedule.

It's all about being the lead dog and their view never, ever changes.

Also, Patriots fans have every right to be arrogant.
