The good news for the Defense

I said last year meant nothing because the poster said the Bengals were 9th in the league in rushing. Its a new year, things change, teams can get better or worse. I think the Bills improved with Spiller who should only get better with experience and then the Jets got better IMO with the addition of LT and Greene being the future back. The Pats run D looked good today, but we will know just how good they are after the next 3 weeks

No offense, but your opinion is not fact. My opinion is that the Jets played too much with their running game and it won't be as good. In my opinion, the Bills' o-line and their QB make their RBs irrelevant even if they had 30 starting quality RB. We won't know who is right for a month or two.

Cedric Benson has show a year and 3/4 with the Bengals that he can be a consistent elite RB. I don't know how thinking he and the Bengals' running game is any worse than Shonn Greene (who had two great games in the playoffs and a couple of good games vs. the Raiders and Colts' back ups) and the Jets running game before we see either team play at least 3-4 games. The Jets' o-line looked very inconsistent this preseason.

???? Spiller looked aweful.

The jets improved their running game by replacing Jones and Washington with LT? The jets had the best running game in the league in 2009.

First game for Spiller, like I said he will get better with a few games under his belt.

The Jets added LT and made Greene their primary back. IMO I think they have a better running game than last year, but that is just my opinion. I think LT will have a big year for the Jets.

So, my opinion is not fact, but yours is? We all have our own opinions on here, we are all entitled to our opinions.

I don't understand what you are trying to say at all, it doesnt make any sense. The Pats D is facing teams with very good running games to start the season and they will be tested. They passed the test today, but that doesnt mean that they will pass it next week. They very well could though, you never know with a young an inexperienced defense. Preseason really has no correlation to the regular season, the Pats D looked horrible and look how they looked today.

The entire Pats Defense from 2007 and earlier has been rebuilt with younger, faster players.

Wilfork, Check, Check.
Meriwether, Check, Check.
Mayo, Check, Check.
Bodden , Check, Check.
Ty Warren Check, Check
TBC Check, Check
are six valid pieces.

Butler Check
McCorty Check,
Chung, Check
Brace, Check
Wright Check.
Sanders Check.
are six less experienced ones

Guyton?
Cunningham?
Wheately?
Willhite?
Crable??

are five more unknown pieces.

Fortunately you only need 11. I would guess this is a pretty complete Defense, after they are all introduced to each other.

I think its been said but this was the first game for a young D against a team with an elite QB, a 2 HOF WR's and most fancy to at least make the playoffs

Second half we obviously went to a more soft zone type defense and forced Cinci to eat clock

McCourty and Chung were revelations. McCourty could be a real shutdown corner and a new candidate for DROY, Chung is the new RodneyH. Spikes as we all knew soldifies it all as a true Mike LB.

Plus we still have Cunningham and Brace to get fitter, more game time etc. Liked what I saw for Cunningham when he was on the field

Oh and did I say we were FAST

hey Joe...dyam...no one has even brought that up...yeah,FAST FAST FAST...sure they make rookie mistakes but you cannot teach speed

They have a better running game than last year because they made their 3rd RB their starter, drafted a RB in round 4 that is out of shape and has fumbling issues and signed a washed up LT to a huge contract?

My opinion is that while they will be ok at rushing, they are worse than last year.

Using total rushing yards to evaluate the run D isn't going to help. But looking at the game, we allowed something like 3.5 yards per carry, with only like 2.3 in the first half. In the second half, they were playing a defense that is ok with allowing 5 or 6 yards on a rush. If the Bengals wanted to eat up 20-30 second by only gaining 6 yards, the Pats were going to take that all day.

Yes, the Bengals had to abandon the run early due to the score, but that usually means the yards per carry numbers go up because of the shift in the defensive philosophy. Still finishing the game with a yards per carry under 4 is a good sign for this run defense.

That could prove to be true, or they could be better than last season. We both dont know for sure, only time will tell

When your down by 20+ points early in the second half you arent going to run the ball

It could just as easily be said that the reason they were down that much is because they couldn't get running game established in the first quarter, which would have completely changed the complexion of the game.

The logic is circular, and can be used to make anything look true depending on where you stop in the circle.

I agree with you in principle, that this game wasn't the test we need to draw the conclusion we'd all like to see: that our running D is going to be very strong. Next week will be a better test, unless the same thing happens and we get a big lead early.

The plain fact is that the QBs we will face in the next three games are not as accomplished as Carson Palmer and his receivers.

The Jets had, operative word H-A-D, a very good running game because Wrecks wouldn't let his rookie QB do anything other than hand off. Not any more.

Getting rid of pro bowler Alan Faneca and having fatty oldster, ex-Pat, Woody eat himself out of a job, while having nobody to replace either one of them, has doomed their offense. Ducasse is simply too raw. And then getting rid of League leader RB, Thomas Jones, and Leon Washington are further nails in the coffin.

Henne is a third year QB, but still a soph as a starter. As is Sanchize. Trent Edwards is the best of the three and he has no talent around him, as the Bills are stripping their team and trying for the Locker #1 pick.
