The DL- who stays - who goes, when we draft.

It is one thing to say that OLB is our greatest need. It is another to identify a player that Belichick would be willing to trade up for in the 1st to meet that need.

I don't think that this will happen for anyone. Miller will not be available. For me, the only other player is Quinn and he is worth more as a 4-3 DE and will be drafted with such a value.

I would like to see an OLB in the first 40. Even that is not a lock by any means.

I think Aldon smith is a better overall prospect than Quinn. Certainly more of an upside.

Cam Jordan may be able to slim down a little and play OLB. If not we have a good DE for the future. Both are worth a trade up to get.

Why would you want Jordan to slim down? Personally, I'd rather see him put on 10 lbs and be a 3-4 DE for the RDE position. I think he's better suited for that position.

He could be an excellent OLB of size, and they are rare to find. If not, he will be an excellent DE. Win/win either way. He has play a little on his feet in college.

If they do draft him and BB thinks he is better suited for a DE, then that is OK with me.

Pretty much how I see it. Wilfork is the only stud on this line and they have questions all around him. The great Patriot teams had a minimum of 2 and to some degree 3 DL who really needed to be double teamed and they completely lack that now. They can get quality play out of a number of their current DL but they need standouts for their defense to excel. This draft seems to offer plenty of options at DL for them in the first round and the question is how they read the prospects there. For the most part I would be fine with them taking two DL in the first if they see the talent there.

I agree with this. The system requires three beasts up front and we have one, possibly two if Warren comes back. Yes, they have some nice rotational players, but IMO most of the roster at DE is eminently replaceable if a beast can be drafted.

Also, I think that Watt is the most likely beast and I wouldn'timd a tradeup to get him.

2001: Seymour's a rookie surrounded by solid, but aging veterans.
2003: Ty Warren is a rookie. Sey is starting to come into his own. Washington missed a good chunk of the season with an injury. And the standard Belichick veterans.
2004: Warren is now a starter, but just getting his feet under him. Sey is a stud. Wilfork is a rookie platooning inside with aging Traylor. Jarvis Green is showing flashes of interior pass rush.
2006/2007: Maybe you can say two studs up front, injuries aside.

This defense is about team play, first, foremost, always. Studs are a luxury, desirable, but a luxury which can be done without if the kids out there play their assignments and execute.

Just saying that if we draft one the roster allows room for him.

I agree, I'd love to see Bill land an impact DL who will work hard in games and practices to force offenses to account for him on every snap.
