The difference between Welker and Edelman

Didn't even drink on a Friday night, yet almost threw up after opening this thread.

I'm already drinking this sh*t taking forever wish it was next Saturday already, ready for this drive for 5 man hard being a Patriots fan with these 1st round byes every year

I just got gamepass a month ago and went through that game again. That drop hurt a lot but it wasn't the only reason they lost that day. There was plenty of blame to go around. That was Welker's only drop of the game btw.

Agreed. Ninko jumped offsides.

This is rough - Welker deserves better than this thread.

When you boil it all down to Edelman vs. Welker in the Patriots system, its an interesting comparison because they are similar in that they are both slot receivers who are short shifty dudes. While Edelman isn't done yet, his production hasn't really touched Welker's when Wes was literally tearing up the league from 2007-2012. Welker's production was pretty staggering.

The difference is Welker is a pure slot wr while Edelman is more well rounded with a larger catch radius. While those drops in the sb46 and the afccg hurt Welker, this thread is entirely unfair to Welker. Welker was GREAT at what he did and it is not his fault the offense wasn't more well rounded with consistent outside threats or running game. In 2011 Welker carried this offense to the tune of almost 1600 yards and that was with Gronk and Hernandez still getting a fair share of balls.

While I prefer our offense without Welker that doesn't always dink and dunk, I reiterate that I will never downplay how great he was.

I'm not big into censorship and the like. I don't even have anyone on my ignore list.

But I swear to Christ if I was a mod I'd permaban everyone who ever links GIFs of key plays in those 2 losses.
The bottom was SB49 with the Pats winning. Welker drops that in SB49 and we lose.

Brady made a perfect pass to edelman, his pass to Welker, although catchable, was not perfect...
What's the excuse for Welker in 2012 AFCCG? If you get your hands on it you can catch it. Welker choked and I will never forget that. He also injured Talib the year after and then we were blown to hell because no one could cover Thomas but Talib

Dumbassery. Why do people insist on revisiting this, and making the stupidest of claims? Welker caught 7 of 8 targets in the 2011 SB. Edelman caught 9 of 12 in the 2014 SB.
In the end Edelman caught the last td of sb49 and that 3rd down conversion kept the comeback going. Welker CHOKED. He catches the damn ball and the sb is over.

HE HAD ONE DAMN JOB.

I dunno if they are really all that similar, Edelman isn't a slot reciever. Both great players and Wes unfortunately missed a few years of his prime in the playoffs in 08 & 09 and wasn't quite himself in 2010. Wes played hard for us and was a great player, why dog him?
I'd say it was the Superbowl but I think really it was when he left. As for the constant comparing if the two I think its just because in 09 they were using Julian in the slot and he was a short guy who also did punt returns, just like Wes and so the comparison stuck with people

The current patriot is always better than the ex patriot if the gap is even remotely close enough to justify the opinion.

This thread really needs some random Amendola vitriol.

Edelman/Welker.

1a/1b with no wrong answers as to who is which.

I agree. However, one of Minitron's receptions was a go ahead TD. That holds more weight (if we're just speaking about balls caught/dropped).

The bottom was SB49 with the Pats winning. Welker drops that in SB49 and we lose.

So that statement puts the blame of AH's two first down drops, Branch's drops, Brady's incompletions, Brady's safety, Brady's interception thrown to a hobbled Gronk (a healthy Gronk prevents that) all on Welker's shoulders.

That drop hurt and it's the one we remember the most but it wasn't the only reason they lost that Super Bowl.

Butler's interception wasn't the only reason they won the 2014 SB either.

I guess Rodney Harrison is the reason we lost in 07 then?

I'll take the qb from kent st.

Warrior, ultimate competitor, clutch.
Respect to Wes though, really sucks we didn't win one with him.

Welker deserves better than this kind of revisionist slander

He's been through so many injuries and concussions, while still coming through for this team on so many ocasions. Let give the man a break here

Thank God we have the vintage 2017 Brady. That pass to Edelman was right there. The pass to Welker . . . not so much.

If the Giants defended us like that again... give it to Blount and he makes the first down and they are in FG range.

So nice to have a run threat. But I digress. Carry on...
