Rex was the guy who said that, just recently, in regards to how the sports media doesn't give a **** unless things are going bad.

Tabloid sports media is the norm now - their goal is to report on controversy whenever possible. When there is a little bit of controversy they over-report it so it seems like a lot of controversy. Eg, Jaws saying that he thinks Kaepernick could be one of the greatest of all time, ESPN reported and reported what their own guy said so they'd have a story.

Breer's line of questioning with Belichick wasn't about finding out about Gronkowski - in retrospect these guys are smart enough to know Belichick's going to give a non-informative blanket statement by now. No, it was about Breer trying to get Belichick annoyed enough that he'd say something worth reporting on.

In short, a media schmuck trying to make a story about how Belichick gets along with sports media. Similar to the same **** that Borges pulls.

Look at the NY media - guys like Mehta and Cimini write what they write to make the story about themselves. Because if there's one entity in the equation that is interested in making damn sure there's a story for the sports media to report on it's the sports media. It's not megalomania it's just a business model.

And I'm ******* done with it. Breer antagonized Belichick deliberately in the hopes that he'd be able to write some dumb **** today about how Belichick behaved at a press conference.

Tell me how this **** has anything to do with football and why I should give a flying ****?

Read the Montana part of my signature. It's been this way for a long time. It's not about reporting sports it's about the earnings report from ad sales.

In the eyes of the media, for the Patriots it's "one camera when we win, zero cameras when we lose."

The sports media, especially in this town, take themselves way too seriously. Seeing Bellichick troll them and knock them down a peg or two is hilarious.

I went to school for Journalism mostly because my writing sucked and I needed to improve just to be able to write decent for any job I got. I breifly considered trying to get into sports journalism and I am so glad I did not because quite frankly I hate sports jornalism or what passes for it.

IMO there are two big problems with sports jornalism:

1) they are not held to the same standards as news jornalists (who's standards are also going out the door too).

2) this is a problem for all of media but especially evident in sports. They dont cater to their core audiance as they know they are sticking around but instead they cater to the fringe to try and bring in more viewers/readers. Rather than giving in depth analysis that the core audiance would love but the fringe would never tune into they give us crap like Come on man and Jacked up and PTI like argument segements. While I find Jacked up and Come on Man entertaining there is so much more in depth coverage they should and could be giving us.

And I guess to the OPs point another huge problem for them and something I learned in jornalism 101 is not to be part of the story but these guys cant just write objectively anymore because they need their TV time and wont get the air time if the public doesnt know them. But again the core will get to know just on content but the fringe needs you to say something sensational to remember.

In my opinion, it's clearly worse now between the Patriots/BB and the local media than it's ever been. Borges and Shaughnessy, long-time haters, have been joined by other locals too numerous to enumerate in openly ridiculing - not simply criticizing - the team, the coach and even the owner. It's like war.

They'd like nothing better than to know that they drove BB out of NE into retirement or elsewhere, the smug bastids.

Well as I write this, the top three posts on a football board are moans about the media. Clearly the people at Patsfans do give a "flying ****".

Unfortunately.

I'll only speak for myself, but you're right, and I'll try and explain why I give a flying ****. It's because it's like playing an endless card game in which the dealer's employing a rigged deck. I always get the feeling that the negative is almost always accentuated over the positive, that these local SOBs are intentionally disingenuous, intentionally tell only part of the story and gleefully adopt a mob mentality which screams we're gonna lynch these bastids because we've determined that they deserve it. And then, when Belichick pushes back ( and let's be clear - he's the only one who does), the almighty media members get up in arms as if they've been violated somehow. It sucks, it's unfair and it's endless. There, I'm done.
