Winning leads to more revenue and winning leads to more licensing revenue, sponsorships, etc. Winning also leads to more national TV slots. So you've basically stumbled onto a confounder.

So where precisely is all this extra advertising coming from? If you mean Uncle Buck's local pig farm buying a spot on UNC radio then sure. That's worth about a penny compared the the national TV contracts.

I'm not taking about tv money and revenue sharing.

Advertising and marketing of sports drives broadened exposure. The purchasing of licensed UNC merchandise and companies paying UNC to promote their brand also drives revenue to the university.

For example , Penn State football generated $14.6m in said revenue.

UNC is a premiere basketball school. They have very good advertising and marketing in place. They sell UNC merchandise and there already are companies paying to promote their brand.

I just don't see any significant increase in any of the above based on UNC getting extra games on ESPN/ESPN2.
