The 2013 NFL Combine Thread

Hunter 4.41 at good size.

I'm happy with that. I didn't want him to run too fast and rise up draft boards out of value for us. I think he will kill the vertical and broad jump too. He did slim down to run a time though, so that also has to be taken into consideration, but either way he is an explosive playmaker.

Guys,
What about Jeff Demps? Isn't he our "tavon Austin"? Without a 1st rd pick? I know he isn't as good a slot WR but he should have the KR, PR, and rushing ability. Especially since he had an entire season to bulk up. The only way I see this kid as an option is if he slips to us (doubtful) and belichick believes welker can then just walk.

The great thing is there are so many wideouts that they can't all just rise out of our reach. He's currently #10 (66 overall) on CBS and all 9 above him I'd be fine with in some sort of way. (Although I have no idea who Dobson is)

I don't see Austin as a replacement for Welker, I think he is a Percy Harvin type player (who I also don't see as a Welker replacement). His value is as a versatile playmaker, not a reliable, consistent WR. He probably makes the least of his plays from the slot, so I wouldn't use him to replace Welker, the same way I wouldn't not draft him if we do re-sign Welker. Completely different players in different roles.

The Demps argument could be valid though, I think they could certainly play similar roles. If they are comfortable with Demps doing those things you mentioned, then I don't see a point to drafting Austin. That is a big 'if' though because Demps is so untested and has a history of injury.

This really is a great WR draft and I think its going to all be about value. Like you said, 10 or so guys I think most of us would be comfortable with us taking gives us some great options.

Damn...didn't know Austin was that fast. I always thought more of a good speed guy but more quick than fast.

Hopkins just owned the gauntlet.

Greg Cossell really talking up Markus Wheaton.

does anyone know wheatons height? i found multiple sources and one is mentioning him as 5.11, the other 6.1.

5'11. His college had him listed at 6'1"

Hunter looks like Randy Moss, so tall and skinny.

Well I like the fact that they just showed BB watching the wide outs.

He was there for WR day last year too. Shouldn't read too much into it.

Patterson's 40 should seal his fate as a top 10 pick and the #1 WR spot. Kindof glad, I smell bust there. Go get him Jets!

My thinking is the Pats have three major needs this year.

1) WR, we have non with game changing speed. I am not a Brandon L. fan and I think he goes to the ground way too much. I rather have a wr who can catch a pass in stride and get that much needed YAC.

I don't see Austin lasting to the 29th pick. I watched some of his tape on youtube and WV O looks a lot like the Pats O. I also watched vide on Woods from USC and he plays a lot in the slot. What was good about these two guys was great kickoff returners.

2) DT, the talent next to Wilfork is just not where it needs to be. You put another above average talent next to him and I think it helps Wilfork's game and it also helps Chandler Jones. The guy I liked was the DT from Ohio State and I want to see how he does with speed and burst. What I liked the most was that he never quit on a play and always ran to the ball. Short from Purdue seemed like once the play went away from him he pulled up and either jogged or walked.

3) DB, not so much at safety. I want to see what Wilson can do in his next year. The problem that I saw say with Elm's youtube video's is all clips against the run. It looked I was watching Chung. Safety in todays game has to be a center fielder.

Patterson is either going to be a bust as a WR or he'll be one of the best players in the NFL - I don't see much middle ground. I have a suspicion it'll be the latter so I'm kinda hoping he doesn't go to the Jets...just in case

Haha, I agree. Sanchez can't hit a Stephen Hill doing jumping jacks in the endzone, so I wouldn't worry about him hitting Patterson deep.
