Tetairoa McMillan runs a 4.48-4.55 at Pro Day

I think its crazy how a guy puts in a body of work for a whole season and just because he runs under 4.5 at his pro day he is suddenly a much better WR than he was 10 minutes ago when we didn't know his 40 time. Lol. He was falling into the deep teens and now some of you want him at 4. Its ridiculous. He is the same guy as on his film.
That's how Daniel Jones went #6 overall in the First Round: it happens every Draft.

Jayden Higgins is 6'4 and one eighth and 214 and ran a 4.47. McMillan is 6'4 and one eighth and 219 and ran a 4.48. Would rather have him in the 2nd Round.
Why not both lol

More curious on the 10-20 years times
If Carter and Hunter are gone, I'm leaning towards the Pats taking him now. That 40 yard dash at his size is significant.

My concern with him was never about speed. It’s his agility where my concerns lie.

Ignore Harry.
Remember the Devante Parker disaster. Big guys that don't separate went out of fashion with Keyshawn Johnson.

McMillan is two inches taller than Parker. And Parker was never considered as good ad McMillan. And much of the problems with Parker and his contested balls was because of the rest of the offense the QB was unable to hit the right target with him. He actually wasn't bad when he could actually fight for a contested ball.

And again, you are using the Patriots experience with two WRs to write off all contested ball WRs.

Warren's a batshit crazy pick at 4.
No offense, I don't even think he's the best TE in the draft, even though he's rated highest.
Perhpa
Why not both lol
Why not Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland and Jayden Higgins? The you have TE and WR covered (as Henry and Hooper are short term, but would help the young TE's).

If we drafted him to McDaniels' offense I could see him being a really important piece but the stats not necessarily reflecting that. Everyone wants the X receiver who fills up the stat sheet but I could see him being one of the X's that's impact is felt as much in what he opens up for others as it is in his own stats. With his size, body control on contested catches, and now seemingly answering the call on his straight line speed, there's definitely the potential there to be someone there who can clear space underneath for others based on his downfield threat ability. I still question whether he has the short area burst and overall fluidity to be one of those guys who produces a high volume of stats from the X spot.

I could see him being a guy who "only" gets 60 catches for 950 yards each year which is overall unremarkable except 15.8 is a pretty yards/catch. But with his physical profile and the type of route tree he projects to run, that type of stat line could come with him being a huge presence for opening up space underneath and opening room for others.
In theory, yes. Also in theory, Jayden Higgins could do the same and can be had in the 2nd Round.

Please list all the contested catch WRs since Keyshawn Johnson that were worth a top-5 pick.

I'll start: Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, both hall of famers, btw, who could both separate AND contested catch.

If a Fitzgerald, Johnson, or even Julio Jones were there at #4, ABSOLUTELY!!!

Not to mention Parker had a pretty good career before he got here. We just got him at the end.

Obviously you don't take Parker at 4 overall but if we think Tet's floor is Parker and the sky is the limit then I'm all in.

These elite type wr of mike evans dk metcalf etc they are not only contested catch guys they beat their man

I think people are overstating that he is just a contested ball receiver. Most of the highlights I see of the guy he is either open or wide open. Here is a video of some plays and the only real contested ball was a play where he beat his defender and had to slow down to catch the ball.

Hilarious hype tweet.
Half those plays the vaunted West Virginia defense (99th in yards allowed, 101st in PPG), they weren't even lined up.

If you're drafting a guy #4 based on this, well, I guess you can work for Woody Johnson.

You have to go by the players available in this draft. Fair enough to say that Tet is not Johnson or Fitzgerald. But Campbell isn't Orlando Pace Either. Carter isn't as good as other top edge rushers in other drafts either.

All true. I draft none of those people at 4.

Tetairoa McMillan needs to be back in serious consideration for the Patriots. He’s got enormous potential as a WR1 for Drake Maye running like that at his size.

You do know that you should add at least 0.1 sec to hand times pro day 40s, if you want to estimate what his laser timed (combine) 40 would have been, right. So, the time is closer to 4.58, which is what he looks like on firm. You fell for his and his agent's plan.

Hand-timed 40-yard dash metrics aren’t as appealing for scouts and evaluators, but there’s a reason schools stick with them, and it’s fairly simple. Because a person times these runs with a stopwatch at the 40-yard mark, they’re more susceptible to human error and minute delays in response. The result? Generally, you get faster times.

It’s a known imperfection of the process surrounding pro days, but it’s one that’s here to stay. On top of stopwatches being cheaper than laser technology, they also provide the best numerical result for players. And because pro days are dictated by each individual school, putting prospects in the best position is what matters most. Arizona State football official Markus Alleyne echoed these sentiments in an article in the Sports Business Journal in 2021.

Lasers are always slower, but any advantage that we can provide our kids, we’re going to do that. So we make the decision whether we’ll hold [the pro day] on grass or the turf. Turf is faster than grass, so we hold it on turf. Inside or outside? Inside has more regulated conditions, so we hold it inside. We try to give our student-athletes the best advantage possible."

Jones was just big. Nothing about his game required him to be a contested catch guy. His route running was the elite of the elite. A real pleasure to watch him excite his craft the way he did

Scouts in the stands were saying they timed him in the low 4.5s. Also hand-timed, of course.
