Anyone know what scheme he’s going to bring to New England? I believe Detroit plays a base 4-3 but their most used defense is a 4-2-5 nickel. Can someone confirm?

This guy is reportedly an outstanding teacher. That's what the Pats need. Vrabel doesn't need a guy who brings a newfangled scheme. They need to optimize the players at this point.

Not that it is necessarily a bad thing as Vrabel is bringing folks onboard that he has experience with but we are becoming the New England Titans

Yes. In all likelihood Vrabel and Williams will come up with the scheme together which will probably be similar to what they ran in Tennessee.

I just read they ran a four man front in Tennessee.

The Lions defense really wasn't that good the last half of the season.

Yes. I know they had injuries.

Looks like a guy that wakes up at 3am and has the worst cup of black coffee. Good for football IMO.

Worth noting he is 50 years old and has 26 years of combined college and NFL coaching experience. Compare that to Covington who was 34 years old and had a combined 10 years of college and NFL coaching experience - half of which was only in “coaching assistant” or “graduate assistant” type roles.

That’s fine and all, but we also need a guy who can see what the opponents are doing during the game and make a move to counter that. He’s a first time DC so we have no history to fall back on there, but I have to imagine he’ll be better than Covington/Mayo at that.

I mean come on they only lost these guys and were pulling off guys on practice squads all over the NFL and playing them the same week. Should they have really dropped off on that side of the ball?

This I like.
