What did the playcall signify on that last Tebow TD pass? (not the result the call)

  • It was an "FU" of sorts. "We're keeping Tebow on the roster."

    Votes: 29 27.1%
  • It was a farewell (he's cut). Let the kid go out on a high (possibly last play ever in NFL).

    Votes: 24 22.4%
  • Absolutely nothing. Nothing can be read into about Tebow's fate, anyway.

whoa i have never been so manipulated by subtle internet trolling in my life, all 3 of my chins are trembling with fury right now and if i didn't have 72 pizza rolls to eat while i watch my favorite anime i'd write a treatise on why you are wrong and how i totally think you're seriously.

this isnt tff no one will get it

It was an unusual play call. If you're simulating game conditions, you take a knee there. Because a fade could result in a pick 6 and you lose the game.

It was some kind of special circumstance for the call -- could be tweaking Coughlin or something.

It's a meaningless preseason game. Why not go for win?

I didn't choose a poll option.

I think if anything the final play was for Tebow's benefit--in the market, after he is cut. Two touchdowns looks great on his resume.

But you do understand the Patriots were already winning by a point, 10 seconds to go, no time outs for the Giants? "Practicing" game simulation there results in taking a knee. You don't risk a pick six to go the other way.

You do if you want to practice a situation in which you actually ARE down by more than a FG and need to score. One can easily tell you haven't been following this team for very long. Situational football, Oinko. And that's what they were practicing and do practice when the games are absolutely meaningless.

Oh. Well, everybody else (including commentators and sports writers) thinks it was an unusual call in that situation, and that you practice the situation that the preseason game gives you (without making one up that's fiction). And, that almost every player on the field at the end will be cut, so it wasn't really "practice" in that sense.

It's Belichick. How many times has he made a call that can be deemed "unusual"? Again, one can tell that you haven't been following the team for very long (no offense) if a call like this is of any surprise to you. They could have been practicing or trying to get a look at any number of things with the third team. None of it means anything because the coaching staff is going to look at the full body of work for every player on the roster, including Tebow.

Tebow had an accidental touchdown where he threw the ball about four feet over Sims head and the defender fell down. The defender doesn't even have to make a play on the ball -- if he simply tackles Sims after the catch, the story of the play is that Sims made a great catch on a poorly-thrown ball.

Umm, also, a tackle in the endzone? You mean in an attempt to knock the ball out?

I don't recall the ball being overthrown, but if it was I prefer that to Mallett's underthrow on the same route (virtual pick).

Yeah, if it was underthrown.

Or to show Mallett how not to turn the ball over in the red zone.

You don't even know how I voted. Put "absolutely nothing about Tebow" as a choice. I think that's a strong choice.

I just think it was already decided whether Tebow was cut or not, and so one couldn't help but wonder which way they viewed it -- "let the kid fling it one more time" or "here's mud in the eye of everybody, we're keeping the kid."

bradys washed up. its tebow time

Are you kidding me Bardy is not washed up, you the one cheering for the 3rd string QB. Even if he was washed up they would play Mallet over Tebow, did you watch the game last night Tebow threw a pick which looked like he men't to throw it to the giants.

That guy's just trying to poison the well against Tebow fans. He knows that often shallow thinkers will group think. In other words, he is acting like an irritating Tim fan when in reality he wants to make as many people as possible think all Tim fans are irritating.

It is also true that even if Tim fans are not irritating, many Tim detractors often try to make it seem that way.

Go figure.

Please stop feeding the angry jets' fan pretending to be a Tebow fan.

thanks.

T Bottom line is that Edelman is a better QB than him, and I'm willing to bet that with one month of practice, Vereen or Slater would be also.

I was referring to the first Sims touchdown, when he made something like 45 yards after the catch. That was a horribly thrown ball. But if the defender didn't fall down, and instead tackled Sims after the catch, the storyline isn't "Tebow throws two touchdown passes!" It's "Wow -- what a catch by Sims!"

And I agree Mallett's almost INT throw was horrible for a 3rd year player. It was horrible for a NCAA player. It doesn't make Tebow's performance any less abominable, though.

It was a great throw, and would have been a clutch first down pass on third down. The YAC and touchdown were flukes.

That throw wasn't very high at all. Sims didn't even leave the ground.

I would never call a throw that made a receiver stop short, extend his arms over his head, and jump (albeit after watching the replay just now, not as high as I thought last night) to be a "great throw". It was a phenomenal adjustment by Sims, helped by the fact that defender fell down. I don't know -- maybe Tebow in his infinite wisdom knew the defender was going to fall down.

Look, even if you want to call it a great throw by Tebow, in reality it was a 10 yard pass. Let's not get too excited because of the yards after the catch.

I don't see the point of keeping him on the 53 at the expense of a guy who can actually help the team win when Edelman has the exact same skill set as a QB but can play WR and PR.

Man I haven't even posted there in like, 2 years. I got tired of the BS moderation and I only ever got probated like once. Mods being ****s and then banning for mod sass got old.

I don't know about you but I happen to think steak and eggs is so underrated as a good American breakfast....

Mayock also complimented the throw -- it was a tight window and he put it in the only spot he could, other than it could have been about 18 inches lower. But the thing that made it "great" was just the situation -- third and long, stepped back, bam. For Tebow, it was a flash. Because those are the ones he needs to pull the trigger on -- any throw where it looks like he listened to the clock in his head and got it out of there, is good. If he would do that on every play, his mechanics would be better off because his body would settle into a rhythm and his accuracy would come more naturally.

So anyway, I'm sort of flip-side agreeing with you about the fall and the 52 yards -- but I'm on the other side. If it weren't for the fluky fall and TD, we'd probably be thinking of it as a conventional, clutch throw by Tebow. The kind we need to see more and more of.
