They are wrong. Judging by the player friendly CBA that now exists he retired just before the final negotiations with the NFLPA.

And that is really what this current CBA was all about.

It was a bad deal agreed to avoid a black mark on Tags tenure. Unfortunately this deal has an opt out for the union in 4 years so all it accomplished was setting the very un-NFL like precedent that you either give the union what it wants or we go uncapped now rather than 4 years from now. 2010 will be deja vu all over again with a number that beings with a 6 and then some. Just not on this commissioners watch.

Not sure of all the inner workings of the NFL, but under Tags this league has become a cash cow for the players and owners. The way it is marketed and how it is advertised has reaped financial benefits for those directly involved and for those of us who watch a very salient product.

As they say on the Big Show, "You're making my point". The previous system DID create a system that resulted in a quality product that made players and owners alike boatloads of money.

Tagliabue's legacy might be creating a new system that does not achieve that same balance, and the sport might suffer.

Time will tell.

Paul Tagliabue's legacy can be summarized in two words: Peace and Prosperity.

.

The Associated Press reports secretary of state Condoleezza Rice is not applying for the newly opened post of NFL commissioner - not now, anyhow, her spokesman said carefully Monday, March 20. Rice is enjoying being secretary of state "at the moment," spokesman Sean McCormack said. The wiggle-room in his response after NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced he would retire resonated off frequent only half-joking statements by Rice that as a lifelong football fan she aspires to run the league one day. New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft seems to be in Rice's corner for the football post.

I heard Condoleeza Rice is interested in the job. Anyone want to comment?

...and leaving a mess for his predecessor to clean up.
