Syracuse WR Williams quits team

most people have this guy as a late first/second round pick. He has quit the team, he has had quite a few "issues" over the years, and this will only plummet his draft stock even more. Just a dumb move on his part.

Wow. Can anybody remember any other 1st-2nd round prospect just up and quitting 6 months before the draft? There must be some story behind that.

Didn't Robert Smith pull his name out of draft consideration to go to med school? That's the closest I can think of. I don't know Mike Williams, but Mike Williams is no Robert Smith.

...and I'll just bet he isn't off to med school, either.

edit: didn't Smith retire from the NFL for med school? he was drafted and played, right?

As I remember, he opted out of the draft to attend med school went to med school, then entered the draft a few years later, then quit to either finish to med school or start practicing. I don't know if he is currently practicing, since I saw him working as an analyst last weekend.

Just to present this in a different light, apparently Williams was facing his second suspension of the season:

I don't know if accumulating two suspensions is better or worse than having the reputation of a quitter heading into the draft. I certainly wouldn't touch the kid.
