Superbowl Mic'd Up - Goff Comes Across as REALLY Passive

McVay did a great job and if he learns as he goes. Which he probably will he'll be a good head coach, we're comparing him to BB which isn't fair, BB's going to go down as the greatest ever. He was outmatched in this game but that's no surprise.

Goffs not a bad quarterback really. The rams coaching was awful with the exception of Phillips

I think the style that works for BB with his lengthy resume doesn’t work for younger coaches who are just starting out. McDaniels tried that approach and fell flat on his face.

And Belichick tried to mimic Parcells at Cleveland and it was a mistake. He says thison tape somewhere.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Goff was mic'd.

McVay kept Goff in training wheels by doing his reads for him before the snap over the radio and not letting him audible most of the time. That got him a lot of improvement fast in the regular season compared to his rookie year under Fisher, but might have stunted his development compared to just letting him take his lumps early.
I agree. This approach actually stunts his development, unless the coach decided he wasn't capable of it. Also the coach didn't adjust to what the Pats were doing.

In 12 months they will work out if they take his fifth year contract. His lack of ability to lead will surely come into play in that decision making process.

They actually have to make that decision this offseason. As soon as it's given, it's guaranteed for injury; at the start of the 2020 league year it becomes fully guaranteed.

Given that at no point prior to McVay’s arrival did Goff look like a viable starting QB, I’d guess being micromanaged from afar is Goff’s only chance. This was a guy who had to be taught how to take a snap under center when he arrived.

That was pretty funny. He lobbed up a pick to almost seal the game and McVay gives him a pat on the back and tells him he’s doing great. Not saying he should berate him I just found it a little odd.
I'm going to cut McVay some slack on this. With 4+ mins to go and the Pats at their own 4yd line, he probably thought his D would get a stop and force a punt, giving them favorable field position for a game-tying TD drive. His comment to Goff was probably a condensed version of, "We'll get it back for you. Be ready. You're going to win this for us."

Little did McVay know the Pats were going to ice the game running it down their throats. If he did, maybe he tells Goff after the pick, "Way to throw it up for grabs, numbnuts!"

Regards,
Chris
