I think something that goes understated is that it's pretty normal for kickers to experience a great deal of fluctuation like this year over year. It's the nature of performing over a very small sample size. Name a kicker, any kicker, and then go look up his career stats. Chances are he had some down years.
Coming into the season, lots of people regarded Nick Folk and Mason Crosby as the worst starting kickers in the NFL, and they're a combined 26 for 27 so far.
This kind of fluctuation is pretty standard when you're being evaluated by 30 or 40 plays per year. It's to be expected.
