Take him back in a minute. Matter of fact, I'll pick him up at Logan and drive him to Foxboro. He will work his tail off to pick up the pieces in his life and it starts with his football career, he will be extra motivated after what he has been through.
Bring in Donte.
There's our 3rd WR issue solved (cheaply and without costing us a draft pick), this would allow us to use all four of our day one picks on the "D" and OL.
I swear people remember former players far more or less fondly after they are gone. Stallworth was not very good the second half of the season for the Pats in 2007. After the bye week 10, he had 17 catches for 244 yards and no TDs. That is a pedestrian 2.4 catches for 34.9 yards and no TDs. He had fallen to #4 on the depth chart. In the playoffs, he had a good gme vs. Jacksonville (3 catches for 68 yards), but disapeared the next two playoff games.
Stallworth is a JAG. He is a JAG who is consistently injured and missed a year of football. If he is the Pats' #3 WR in 2010, I am peissed. The Pats don't need him. There are better free agent WRs they can get without the baggage especially with a lot of higher priced veterans likely to be cut. I'd rather have Branch back than Stallworth and I don't know how much Branch has left.
There is only one wr i want to see back that played on the Pats.. Deion Branch , those 2 were more on the same page than Brady is with Moss right now..
Goodell announced Donte Stallworth's reinstatement is official after the Super Bowl. I thought he was pretty effective and could be a great value moneywise.
What do you think?
For a small contract, why not bring him in for a look?
I know Stallworth struggled a bit in the offense, and Gaffney passed him on the depth chart in the second half of the season. But that was also Gaffney's second season with the offense, and he should have more familiarity with it.
Donte did a decent job in his first and only season with us, and caught more balls than Gaffney did in any of his seasons in New England.
And I'm not saying Stallworth is the answer to the receiver depth issues, or that he is the key either. But if you can get him for cheap, why not bring him in for another look? And also Deion Branch. And any other receiver who has worked with Brady who can be had for cheap. If any of those guys can be more than a JAG, that's a huge upgrade with no real risk.
I'd still like to se the Pats draft a WR. But I don't see the risk in bringing in some older guys with experience in the system and with Brady on veteran minimum contracts to see if they have anything left.
The Browns announced Monday they have terminated the contract of wide receiver Donte' Stallworth.
Stallworth has had trouble learning every system he's been in. I think he's a nice wr, but I would be very surprised to see him back.
