Allen is more name then game at this point.

It's not a good safety vs a good corner. It's a an elite safety vs. an elite CB. We can sign Talib as well as a good safety. (Clemons, Decoud, Abdullah, etc)

And then probably not add a piece to the DL, or a LB to replace Spikes. Maybe that's better, maybe it's not. But this defense has enough areas of opportunity to improve that it isn't Talib or bust. We have room to improve at safety, DL, and LB, or stay status quo at CB. I doubt we have the funds to do all four. So if we lose Talib there are options to improve the D elsewhere, and considering you may invest in Talib and have him unavailable when it matters most anyway, I don't see it as unreasonable not to break the bank for this guy when there are other ways to get better.

Not ok with giving him top CB $$. If he was healthy yes...but you can count on him missing HUGE games come playoffs....no thanks

Screw it pay Revis and be done with it, I'm sick of the revolving door at CB.

I don't want him either. I just want a good CB to stay for a few years..been a long time since law/samuel

"The mindset is to get the most $$!"

You're probably right that we can't improve all four defensive areas in free agency. But with the ability to get to 30 million in cap space, who knows.

I don't want good I want great. I miss the days having that corner to take away half of the field on his own. There gonna lose Talib I'm convinced, and to anyone who thinks a CB tamdem of Dennard, Arrington who was benched over and over for below average play, and Ryan are the answer going forward is sadly mistaken.

If Ryan or Dennard are the number 1 corners on this team I will not watch a single snap.

Some of that likely has to go to offense (interior o-line, WR vet help, tight ends), but you're right, you never know. I just don't want the Patriots keeping Talib out of some sense of misguided desperation. They CAN be a great defense without Talib, assuming they add the right pieces elsewhere. Don't need to overextend for an unreliable player.

Am I the only one who's not excited about watching a team you KNOW isn't going to be good enough to win a SB?! Is this that kind of a forum?

I'm all for improving the defense in all areas, but it will not help if you significantly weaken the most important position on your defense. Not all positions are as demanding or as important. Given the choice, I'd rather pay a million or two more than I want for my #1 corner, and save the money by, say, letting Duron Harmon start at safety rather than paying a Gregory-like veteran.

better than your team I promise you troll.

I could live with Jared Allen and a lesser CB in FA over Talib. People crying about Ryan being the number 1 have to understand that Logan was a rookie last year. We may see some improvement, just saying.

Also, Dennard was hurt a lot of last year, banged up knee and shoulder...also, year 3 for him should be good. He better be hitting the weights in prison.
