1) What will be the role of Devlin? Is Josh really going to use more 2 RB sets? Hooman is OK for 2-3 plays a game. But if more is needed, I guess that the team has chosen Devlin. Is he really that good of a blocker? Hooman is fine to keep as a minimum salary backup TE.

2) Is 9 OL's a temporary condition? While this seems to be the case, I am fine with having a backup OG and a backup OC on the 53.

3) If the 2 TE set is a thing of the past, then we don't need a 4th TE as a backup. If we are going to use a lot of 2 TE sets, and occasional 3 TE sets, then we need to pick up a TE (Slivestro and Gronkowski are out there).

4) IMHO, we still need an additional DE.

5) We seem to have no clue as to the availability status of Ebner. Playing in a couple of weeks, in season IR, and IR are all possible.

6) Are we keeping Beuaharnais and White? It seems that Beauharnais is a Practice Squad player.

7) Unless Belichick is counting on Ryan, Harmon, Cole and T Wilson as position defensive backs, we need additional help. Moore seems a reasonable player to sign.

BOTTOM LINE

There is lots of flexibility/weakness at the bottom of the roster. We have needs and players that we could cut to make room.

1. Reportedly, Devlin has been working with the TE's more than the RB's at practice. He is the reason why there is a perceived shortage of TE's.

2. At least one of the recent OL signings will end up on the PS. The roster is definitely still fluid...as we are used to.

3. I think the predominant 2 TE set is a thing of the past. When Gronk is healthy, we will see a little more of it with him and Suds, but not THE dominant formation for this offense.

4. Definitely. I still think Jermaine Cunningham will be back.

5. Yup. Nothing but ?????????? with Ebner.

6. I think you are right. Maybe BB was afraid of losing Beuaharnais and is going to waive him over the coming week with eyes on the PS?

7. I'd be good with Moore. Right now, it is pray for no injuries!

My roster question is whither Armestead?
Has the yeast infection subsided?
Eventual IR? In season IR? Or join the 53 after some more weeks?

He's out for at least six weeks, just like any other player on in-season PUP or NFI. We don't need to make a decision for a couple of months.

This is the one that is really bumming me out. I have had high hopes for Armstead. Hopefully he is ready come week 7.

Someone can clear this up. It is my understanding that if he were simply waived, then we can sign him at any time. If we he was waived/IR, then we can sign an injury settlement, wait 6 weeks and sign him. In no case, are we restricted from signing for the year unless he was put on in-season IR.

BUT, we seem to not know the specifics.

That link is confusing. Cunningham was waived and not IR'd I thought? If he was waived (because he is still fighting injury), then he definitely can come back.

When a player is waived/injured he has five days to work out an injury settlement with the club after clearing waivers (not claimed within 24 hours).

If he does work out an injury settlement then he is a free agent, and can sign and play with any other team immediately.

He can also re-sign with the same team, but if he does so then he cannot play for six weeks (similar to being on PUP).

If he does not work out an injury settlement then he goes on season-ending IR.

Thank you.

It would seem that we can sign a settlement with Cunningham (no reason not to). If someone else is willing to sign him, then we should wish him luck. Otherwise, he is similar to our NFI players.

QB - Fine
RB - Solid, though depth behind Vereen is questionable. Bolden isn't fully healthy and has had a rough preseason. I would like to see Washington return or a signing like McKnight.
WR - Fine
TE - A healthy Gronkowski makes this fine. In the meantime, I wish they kept a veteran, either Fells or Ballard. Sudfeld is promising but is a rookie, Hooman is limited and Mulligan is just a blocker.
OL - Fine, though 9OL is one too many for me.

DE - Backup DEs in this system are used as Sub DTs since Jones and Ninkovich never leave the field. Would like to see a veteran for depth and leadership.

DT - Kelly and Wilfork is solid, Franics and Vellano highly questionable. Would like to see a veteran.

LB - Solid.

CB - Would like to see 1 more CB. Maybe Moore?

S - Ebner can go.

Still a bit surprised that Bolden is still here....he has looked awful this preseason...and spotty at best since coming here...

A friend of mine who works in the medical field, he was actually a nurse in the military and we were overseas together, anyway he follows the Patriots a little bit and I asked him about Armstead, he said that Armstead likely has a pacemaker type device implanted in his chest and the area around it became infected, he said they likely had to go in and clean it out the infection and replace the device. He said it shouldn’t be a long recovery as long as the infection does not reappear, so I am still hopeful for a week 8 return.
