So, anybody think the Pats can't do it?

Not surprised people were despairing after Gronk's injury but...

We obviously still have talent on each side of the ball.

Since the season had been "over" after every single game this year (think back) who's not in?

Pats/Seahawks SB mark it down!

The return of Poodle Pete! At least we took care of the legacy of Bobby Grier last week.

Actually happy for the guy that he's kept a job, but boy was he Peter Principled here, thanks to the animosity between Parcells and Kraft.

If Talib, Dennard, McCourty stay healthy I have no doubt we can beat anyone in playoffs

I see flaws and problems everywhere with the Patriots this year. I can think of a few big flaws.

But:

1) They have real resilience and heart this year
2) No other AFC teams seem like they have it all together either

I actually can do without the toughest matchup if the stars align that way. Carroll vs Belichick would be the marquee matchup, though. Lots of storylines, especially with the old Patriots in the media now.

i don't know if the pats can beat Balt on the road...pats suck on the road...MIA will be tough as it is

Hey why not right? The magic has been on our side. I like our chances and it starts this Sunday with our new WR-based offense.

Everyone has flaws every year. I'd agree we have more than most, but we've also had more time to patch and we've got great young depth. I think our DT situation, if Siliga is playing as well as they say is adequate which is trhe best we're going to get. Lots of WRs have gotten snaps, all the RBs have too. Only ham and eggers at TE/FB but they play hard. I think there's still potential at pass rusher and line backer, especially Collins and Fletcher (Carter, Buchanan?).

We would have died for a secondary like this for a long time, so just hope the bruises heal.

Like i said, I think we're lucky we flooded the roster with young developmental talent and they've mostly managed to grow up quick.

They beat Atlanta on the road. Besides, when you're undefeated at home and 10-3, you've got to lose someplace.

2 of those road losses they were jobbed (Jets, Panthers). Do you really think they suck on the road? How bout some glass half full?

I'm in.

When I saw the hit on Gronk, I thought that was the season. Yet here we are, controlling our own destiny once again. In spite of our own talent drain (a half dozen Pro Bowl caliber players on our roster last year won't be on our playoff roster) - we are still one of the most competitive teams in the league. Perhaps the most. We compete in every game against every opponent.

Anything can happen in the playoffs, we've seen that, and there are no teams in the AFC really worth losing sleep over.

In short, I like our chances as much as anybody.

If Auburn can get to the Natty, the Pats can make the SB. Pats are playing with house money imo, whatever happens, happens. I am just going to enjoy the ride.

Been a crazy season so far.

Dobson at practice again. I'd almost forgot. Not near gronk, of course, but it does give us a bigger fast talented receiver to go along with the smurfs.

I try to read these threads daily but I've failed to find any comments about the Bengals game. I think that the Pats were robbed of the first comeback game on the road in Cincy by the horrible downpour that hit our offense in the final minutes of that game.

We should be un-beaten at this point.........

I certainly didn't mention Cinci. That was the low point, simply a putrid offensive performance.

And in 2 of those losses (Bengals & Panthers) they were in position to win the game.

Yeah, I guess I'd blocked the Bengals game out. Rough offensively. We were certainly in every game.

Some quick starts would help, though.

I think any team that's in the dance can do it. But the red zone offense is going to be an issue, going forward.

I have believed every since that NO game. Add in the broncos win and now this Cleveland win, the patriots this year so far have that magic that championship teams have. As long as Ridley can become the 1200 yard Ridley and Dobson, KT, and Boyce can be consistent producers, I think we have enough to do it.

Most people have, everyone talks about how we could potentially be 12-1 and look at that game as a sure loss when one drive would have sent it to OT.

I agree that it's misleading to say we suck on the road. You could easily exchange our wins over New Orleans and Cleveland (maybe Denver, though I think without a recovery that one was going for a tie) with the Jets and Panthers losses.

All those games were completely down to the wire, we lost on two bogus calls, won on a questionable one (still had lots of time to win though... and maybe not have to endure the heart-attacking desperation drive by the Browns).

Point is the difference between this team being 13-0 and being 4-10 is ridiculously small (Only "comfortable" wins came against Tampa, Atlanta, Miami, and Pittsburgh, and several of those were still close near the end). I think our team has played equally poorly both home and away, and has displayed a remarkable resolve to fight, claw, and will themselves to victory.

I don't think they need to play "60 minutes" of great football to start winning more convincingly. I believe Pherein mentioned last night the redundancy implied in this statement. Obviously if your team plays well for 60 minutes, they're probably going to win. Even if they are playing well but the defense they're playing is simply better, we look at that and say "They're not playing well enough."

What they DO need to stop is playing poorly for entire quarters and even halves. It is ridiculous to expect a team to put up points on every single drive, just as it is to expect the defense to always generate a three and out or turnover. At this point, any sort of offensive contribution in the first half would be appreciated. If they play well for 60 minutes, they win hands down. If they play well for even 40-45 minutes with that poor play being interspersed, I like our chances.

I'm kind of getting into full on rambling mode here, so I'll circle around to the OP: even with all the injuries, I believe the Patriots have played well below their talent level the past 3 weeks. Given that they have succeeded despite this, are by far the mentally toughest group since the Superbowl era, and are in a conference full of flawed teams, I absolutely believe they can get to the Superbowl this year. I think they will inevitably be underdogs in the match-up, but I dont think any team is a guaranteed loss.

At the end of the day, no team has fought harder for their record than we have. If we get to the dance, I like our chances.
