Slater - All Pro again so far

I remember Arrington doing this in 2010 against the Colts but I don't think Slater has ever rushed the QB? Maybe he did it with a blitz when he played some Safety? I don't recall Slater playing a single snap on defense in 2013.

Its probably a much different skill set.

But it just crosses my mind that somebody that can be sooo good getting by double blocks and chasing down and tackling in open space the other team's shiftiest receiver just MIGHT be really good at getting to the quarterback as well.

I think you're correct on both points. It was probably Arrington I was thinking of. I believe Slater played safety in 2011 against IND which is the game I was thinking of. Maybe he blitzed, maybe not. But it was Arrington I was thinking of.

Thank you.

Slater is the first st only Patriot that I am amazed by. I know Izzo was good but I always thought we could replace him if we had to. Slater singlehandedly puts my fears of ANY punt returner to rest.

I haven't seen the data, but, on a per-play basis, I'd imagine that the math shows STs to be more impactful than the regular game. Or, at least, that it used to, before the flags began raining down on every play, and the high touchback percentage became the norm.
Boy was football boring back then. Now we get both the excitement of wondering if one side or the other will make a big play AND wondering if the officials will fabricate a call!

He's awesome.

Anyone that thinks ST's don't matter or isn't that important really needs to watch more football.

Or stop watching football period.

I might be the only person that owns a Slater jersey.

The one thing that sort of disappoints me about Slater is that he never developed into a useful player on either side of the ball. In 2011 against Washington and other games where he played safety, he got lit up. And attempts to use him as a receiver have failed. It's too bad, he must not run good routes or have very good hands because he's got incredible speed, agility, and can beat a jam like very few football players in history.
