If Spygate was anything to go by, Roger G. just gave a Patriots team coming off a Super Bowl a huge edge this season. With definitive proof, morale on the Pats would be low; as it stands, however, the Pats are the victim of injustice and a witch hunt. How the NFL higher-ups bungled this is beyond the realm: the Pats were the big bad and now they have a us against the world mentality. Plus, with the lack of proof Brady can sue for libel. A poor blunder that will both set the league back and the Pats.
The Pats aren't destined to win for many more seasons, so losing the picks will hurt but won't cost them the chance at another Super Bowl. Four games penalty is tough, but the Pats can go 2-2 during that stretch if they rally behind their young quarterback. And Brady will return a hero.
Roger G. needs to be fired not only for incompetence, but giving the Pats a mental edge.
