Should the Pats keep Cassel over Brady?

Take a minute to breathe, and actually read the post. Nobody knows what Brady's recovery is going to be like--we've heard nothing but bad things.

Your theory is based on false information. We heard plenty of positive things about Brady in recent weeks. Dr. James Andrews, the recognized GOD of orthopedic surgery and the only expert who has commented about Brady's injury who actually has first hand knowledge of Brady's infection, said that the infection looks to be under control and Brady is back on track. His associate was quoted last week (who might have the same first hand knowledge of Brady's situation, said there was a 1 in 2 million chance that Brady won't be back as good as ever. It also looks like the infection is subsiding and there will be no need to replace the ACL again.

Every other expert who has predicted Brady missing the first part of the season to ending his career are just speculating and have no knowledge of what is going on with Brady's knee other than the very little that was reported. Odds are still very, very good that Brady will be back for training camp base on the information out there.

Wow, these responses are even pissier and more reactionary than I thought. I was hoping that between the "Help! You cad! You villian!" and the "Moderators, save us! I have the vapors!" posts I might get some feedback about the ultimate potential upside of Cassel vs. Brady entering his mid-thirties coming off major surgery, or something, you know, responsive like that.

Take a minute to breathe, and actually read the post. Nobody knows what Brady's recovery is going to be like--we've heard nothing but bad things. I didn't say it was the end for Brady. What I DID say was, let's posit that next September Brady's health isn't what was hoped.....raising the possibility that next season could be largely lost as well. What we then would have would be a GREAT qb entering his mid-thirties (yes, the next year would be 33....I'll give 30, 31, and 32 to early, but sorry, 33 belongs to mid) with questionable health.

Sorry, if Cassel is as good as he looked to me the other night--and again, thanks for such insight here--what to do at QB is something the Patriots' organization would take some time thinking about. Unlike, apparently, anyone on this board.
Bill Belichick will do what he considers to be the in the best interest
of the team. He became a pariah in Cleveland when he got rid of Bernie Kozar. He also surprised NFL people when he traded Drew Bledsoe within
the division.

There is a long list of players whose contracts are up after the 2009
season. What better way to refurbish the team than to trade Tom
Brady for multiple draft picks. Chuck Fairbanks bilked San Francisco
in 1976 so why not try it again.

I don't think that this will happen. The Patriots are Bob Kraft's
billion dollar baby and Tom Brady is his star attraction.

You guys overreact.

It's a crazy idea, yes, but doesn't call for some of the crap I'm reading in your responses.

Though I would never trade Brady, I have always wondered what kind of offer he would draw from other teams, and what it would take for the Pats to give him up. We will never find out though.

Yes, it does call for the crap you're reading in these responses. Why would you wonder what Brady could draw from other teams? Might it have something to do with the fact that he's the best player in the league and that whatever team he goes to would immediately be a contender.

The mere act of trading Brady - regardless of how capable you think Cassel is - would handicap our chance of winning a championship b/c if you add Brady to probably 2/3 of the teams around the league, that team will now be a Super Bowl contender.

The Cassel thing has gone so dramatically overboard. Why must everything be so polarized on this board? Yes, Cassel has done well.
But a year ago, we had the best offense in history. This season, with the same tools, the team is 19th in the league in scoring.

They went from scoring 37 points a game to 22 points a game. That's ridiculous. We're talking about over 2 TD a game drop off from Brady to Cassel.

We're talking about 2 minutes from 19-0 versus fighting to win the division or make the playoffs. Everyone, come to your damn senses. If Tom Brady were QB of this team right now, we're probably destroying teams, teams are probably coming in every week wondering how much they're going to lose by. Tom Brady will be healthy next year and we'll likely get back to utter domination. Enjoy it, b/c it truly will be a once in a lifetime experience as a football fan.

This thread is what patsfan.com is all about! AHAHAHAHAH!

If Cassel shows anything resembling the talent to make this thread make sense, then we will franchise Cassel and have no trouble working out a trade.

what is the point of this thread. Nobody has any idea how Brady is going to recover right now.

If Brady isn't 100% by the start of next year, then the Pats franchise Cassel. If he is, then we might anyway. Either way there is no way in hell Brady gets let go.

Aluminum Seats needs to go work with Al Davis in Oakland. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right out of 'er!

Brady is the best player on the PLANET!!!!!!!!

Trade Cassel, enjoy the extra picks.

If cassel continues to have 300 yards passing and 2-3 td games, and we win the superbowl, I would try to trade Brady for a couple of 1st round picks.

This thread reminds me of conversations long ago when the 49ers had a choice about what they wanted to do with Montana when Young was in the wings

The 49ers got rid of Montana when he could still play because they saw his skills in decline and on top of that they had a guy named Steve Young

Brady is NOT in decline and Cassel is no Steve Young so this thread remains brainless

Wow, didn't realize it was that bad....i heard the $10mil number on WEEI the other day so I figured they would know.

WEEI wrong again.

How can you be a Patsfan member and not read Miguel?

Jesus people--are you overreacting enough? I thought it was a thoughtfully written post, even if the answer, on the surface, seems obvious.

Yet, he does have a point. Brady is 32, which isn't old for a quarterback, but at some point we're going to have to address the position. Perhaps that's what O'Connell's for. Cassel is playing well enough that if Brady weren't a hall of famer, this wouldn't be such a "stupid" topic. He's a young quarterback with a bright future and tons of upside.

I think it's a legitimate question to ask if we should keep Cassel and release Brady--but only if there's some indication next year that Brady hasn't recovered from his knee surgery and isn't going to be the same player. Somehow, I doubt that will happen. It's Tom Brady. But if it does--and the coaching staff sees that Brady can't play at the level he used to--then what do you do? Do you keep the older, but injured, QB for a moderate short term gain, or do you develop the young one? It's a good question.

Its a stupid thoughtless question

You might as well have every team get rid of their skilled all-pro veterans to make room for a youngster who has shown flashes of brilliance but still unproven - Yeah,That would be the right thing to do

Thank god some of you bozos are not GMs in the NFL or there would be 32 Matt Millens running around

I thank the Football Gods that our management is not butt stupid enough to even consider such a dumb move.

Stuck on Stupid.

I sense from the OP a sincere attempt to qualify this idea as much as possible, but it remains an asinine proposition. Moving on...

How is that stupid, if that scenario plays out, it would be stupid for them to not consider it.

Brady's value to this team cannot be measured in draft picks. Untouchable.

Matt Cassel will be overpaid by a sucker team, hopefully the Jets.

10 TDs - 7 INTs is a joke with the offense around him. This thread is offensive.

His value to the team is wins, if you can win without him, then his value goes down to the team.

When Cassel has a bad game im going to make a thread asking if they still think we should trade Brady and keep Cassel insteadlol...
