Wondering..why doesnt the offense switch to the short passing game like in 2004...gives brady a rhythm and the oline has less pressure...isnt it possible to do with the brown, david thomas and caldwell...?

Please refrain from suggesting something that might work. Dont interrupt Josh McDaniels lunacy of trying the same thing over and over, even when its not working and expecting a different result.

He still doesnt realize that the part of the field BETWEEN the hash marks is IN BOUNDS.
i dont know much about watching the game film and stuff but his worst call was the running play by maroney on 4th and 1 ...everyone in the world knew thats the call and they still called it...

Dude, you ain't kiddin'! As soon as they lined up, I said "Don't do it!" and they did. Brady should have changed it to a short pass or even a QB sneak. (I'm Monday morning QBing, I know). I'd like to think Tom's smarter than that. Maybe there's some miscommunication or ego problems between Brady and McDaniels. They are human after all...

Well, I did see some no huddle offense last night - but not enough.

Wasn't that one of your earlier rants about what they should do? I agree that more no huddle will leave defenses gasping for air - even throwing up as we saw last night!

I know the Brady isn't fully comfortable with all his receivers to make that work all the time, but there are enough guys on the field he should be comfortable with to make that effective.

Also last night, I think out of the 55 pass attempts there were quite a few short passes attempted - and that going into the game the dink and dunk was going to be part of the strategy...

What wasn't part of the strategy was having the Broncs stop the running game the way they did

But more no-huddle offense would make sense to me

Wasn't this they sort of thing that made those receivers who are no longer with us into big names?

This season, there has been too many 3 & out series. What happened to moving the chains and ball control? The short pass worked so well in the past (and IMHO, fits well with multiple tight ends) that I too would like to see more of it.

The running game is a big part of moving the chains for the Patriots.

But the running game was not successful last night.

As we saw through the first 2 games, the Patriots have had narrow victories even when the running game was successful.

The Denver D focused on shutting down the run, challenging Brady to beat them through the air - something that would have been unthinkable in the past.

But as of right now, its a solid gameplan for any opponent.

Look for other teams to attempt the same tactic.

I was thinking the same thing, esp. on the 3 and out drive after we had just scored with Brady going 8 for 8 on the previous possession. Why did they go away from the short game that had worked so well? I mean those were 3 really lame passing attempts. But not having been there, maybe the stuff underneath was all covered. Anyone at the game have observations on this?

i thought they shouldve at least called a draw or something on 1 play just to get some yards...3 long pass attempts was predicatable with denver playing prevent D

Denver has fast linebackers that are good in coverage. Look at the play-by-play on NFL.com and you'll see plenty of short passes, but Denver was all over them. Denver did a good job covering the screens as well. Brady looked his best on the TD drive throwing to a decent WR (Gabriel) and *stepping into the pocket*...something he forgot to do earlier in the game. Brady's footwork was way off early in the game. Maybe he was so frustrated with who he was throwing to that he forgot to focus on his own game first. By the time he started getting his act together, it was two long Walker TDs too late.

Regards,
Chris

Didn't Madden say he thought Brady was "sleep walking"? Or was the comment about the entire offense?

The 2004 offense was not built around the short pass. It was built around downfield passing as evidenced by Brady's career highs in YPA and Yards per completion which came in just under 13.

The 2001-2003 teams were short passing teams.
