Seymour usually only plays the 1st and 2nd down. And when it is in passing situations, Jarvis comes in and is used as the pass rusher along with Wright. Now in our system, our DLs first priority is containing two gaps and playing the run. They can't just go up field and pressure the QB. This is the main reason why even in Seymour's dominant years, he never had the sack total everyone expects from an elite DL. So far this year, Seymour has been back to his old dominant self. He's controlled the line of scrimmage in his side but was never used in passing situations because Jarvis came in for him.

(Side note: in the loss to Miami, the Dolphins attacked Warren and stayed away from Seymour. In the loss to the Chargers, the Pats limited SD's running game until towards the end of the game where LT padded the stats with some cheap yards).

Anyway, now that Green has been out for the last couple of games, Seymour has stayed on the field for the nickel packages to rush the QB. He's showed that he can definitely apply pressure when he's main goal is to rush. I think Jarvis is a valuable DL to have, but even when he comes back, the coaching staff should keep Seymour in for passing situations as well.

Next week, we definitely need to apply pressure against the Colts with just four rushers. Seymour or whoever is in DL in passing situations need to get some push in the middle of the line. I have been impressed thus far with Seymour/Wright combination in the middle.

I agree Seymour has been dominating again this year. Great to see and fun to watch.

But the team in almost all positions perfers to keep the players fresh and when Jarvis gets healthy he will rejoin the rotation.

I think Big Sey gets in on most passing situations actually - regardless of Green's health. Sey, Green & Wright are our 3 main pass rushing DL, LeKevin Smith saw time last week, Wilfork sometimes stays in to provide some pressure inside, Warren rarely, so if they continue going with 2 DL in the nickel package when Green is healthy again, then I guess those main 3 (Sey, Green, Wright) would rotate.

Before Jarvis got hurt, we went with Wright and Green at DL with Woods and Vrabel coming off the edge specifically in passing situations (3rd and long). To me, this package had little to no pressure. AD and Mayo were used as the coverage LBs. Lately though (past couple of games), AD has been used as one of the edge rushers, and Guyton and Harrison playing the cover LBs. This past game, Mayo stayed in in nickel and Guyton came in next to him. They had Vrabel and AD coming off the edge with Sey and Wright in the middle. I saw Woods come in for Vrabel a couple of times.

Rotations are great and Green definitely needs to get some PT. But big Sey is a monster as a pass rusher and we need to get off on third and longs and I really think that Seymour can apply that pressure in the middle that we need. Maybe Green can come in for an entire series to give Seymour a blow instead of just passing situations. Green has proven that he is stout against the run as well.
